This is a very impressive top 10, the ones I really like of this list are:

2. Florial - I believe he will be a top 20 prospect before the end of 2018

9. Perez - For me, he will be in a few the top 100 lists sometime during the next year

Dark horse: Dillon Tate

Stud: Gleyber Torres

The rest of them are really good prospects, most of them should taste the majors during 2018. and have good ML careers

The one I have a bad feeling about is Clint Frazier, hope I'm wrong, but he might flame out big time next year

The one I have a bad feeling about is Tate and I think we should move him if we have the opportunity. I love the stuff, but BA’s criticism rings true. He doesn’t miss enough bats for someone with his stuff. This year was a progression for him, maybe next season he starts racking up the K’s, but for someone with lights out stuff who is finally locating, I’m surprised he doesn’t fan more. I really like Frazier, but I can see the concern. I don’t think he becomes a 35 HR masher, but I think his patience will eventually carry over and we can see an Aaron Rowland type player with a touch more power.

The one I like in this list is

17. Taylor Widener - Don't know a lot about him, but I have a good feeling about him, I'm calling it, he will be a 2018 version of Chance Adams

The rest of them are either far away or a very high risk prospects, but you never know. I will keep an eye on Dermis Garcia and Nolan Martinez

Widener is looking like Adams 2.0. Finding a reliever who maintains his stuff when stretched out to start is rare. We found it a few times. This kid is ready to pop

From here is really hard to project but:

23. Billy McKinney - Late boomer, he will be good, but chances are he will end up as trade bait

26. Trevor Stephan - Could be a fast riser, he is what I call finding gold in the later rounds of the draft

McKinney is interesting. He had prospect hype, lost it, then found it again. I think when he was drafted, the ceiling was starting COF with power. I don’t think that’s changed much aside from his ceiling dropping to lower tier COF. He’s well rounded, which is always good. I like Stephan more and more. He came out of college really a one pitch pitcher with that nasty fastball with run, but he really made strides with his secondary stuff. I’m intrigued to see where they start him

One other thing about McKinney. I expect the Yankees to do what they did with Gamel with him. He needs to be on the 40 man. I think he gets added and dealt for lower level guys with potential.

I think McKinney is Aaron Hicks 2.0, all the talent in the world, but it will take sometime to translate into on game performance

In this list are three prospects I really like:

30. Deivi Garcia - Part of the international pool of prospects have a lot of scouts talking about him

31. Glenn Otto - Another fast raiser from this year class, we'll hear good things from him in 2018

34. Jonathan Loaisiga - This is one of the special ones, I believe he just recovered from TJ and if he stays healthy he can reach his high ceiling

Garcia just turned 18 and has a deep arsenal with good velocity. He is probably adding velocity to his frame. I love Otto. He’s a starter who was abused in a relief role at Rice. His stuff is top notch. I also love Loaisiga, but I anticipate he might be traded. IIRC, he is Rule V eligible and might need to be on the 40 man

I heard somewhere that they will add Loaisiga to the 40 man roster

Btw, my ranking of Loaisiga might be way too low. I floated a ? On another site and was ridiculed for his 30s ranking. So be it

Imagine how loaded is our system if you have to slot a guy like him in the 30's, he could be a top 10 prospect in several systems

BA is rolling out their top 20's for each league.

AAA has two leagues, the IL and the PCL.

Top 20 IL prospects

#9 Chance Adams

#15 Miguel Andujar

#16 Clint Frazier

BA did say that the IL is stacked this year compared to the PCL, but still strange to think there are 15 better prospects in the IL than Frazier, but I digress. Adams had a hell of a season, but did start off in AA and he tired as he reached his innings cap. Andujar burst onto the scene and his combo of contact and power is impressive. He is young, but his warts are his lack of walks. Frazier spent half the season in the bigs, but he has a ways to go before he hits his ceiling. Either way, for a team with such young big league talent and having dealt away what we did to have 3 top 16 guys in the IL is impressive to say the least

AA

There are three leagues in AA, the Eastern League, the Texas League and the Southern League

Top 20 EL

#10 Miguel Andujar

#11 Justus Sheffield

#12 Domingo Acevedo

Strange to see three in a row, but Andujar really shouldn't be classified here as hes already in the rankings in AAA. Sheffield had a very solid AA season as did Acevedo.

A+

3 leagues in High A, the Carolina League, the California League and the Florida State League

#7 Dillon Tate

#14 Nick Solak

Tate re-established his prospect status and Solak bashed his way out of the FSL by seasons end

A

Two leagues in the A division, the South Atlantic and the Midwest

#2 Estevan Florial

In the comments section, they did say Freicer Perez just missed the top 20.

A Short Season

There are two leagues in the Short Season section, the NY Penn League and the Northwest League

Top 20 NYP

#2 Jorge Guzman

#9 Trevor Stephan

#14 Juan De Paula

#16 Oswaldo Cabrera

They haven't done rookie ball yet, but the talent here is undeniable for sure

Posted

Good update Jack

The only one which surprise me is Oswaldo Cabrera, I was not expecting to have him this high, but I'll take it

Posted (edited)

Yankees are light years ahead of the Sox in the Minors for Pitching. Their Double AA team and A teams were rated the best in young arms.

I've seen Acevedo, he's going to be something. Hear his ball pop throughout the park. Maybe not this year, but he'll be in NY in 2019.

We dealt away Kaprielian, Clarkin and Littel during the season yet our pitching didn’t seem to suffer. We have an insane amount of arms.

One guy I totally whiffed on in my rankings, btw, is Canaan Smith. Our 4th rounder out of HS this year had a very solid debut in the GCL. For an 18 yr old, he showed power and patience that usually comes with a bit more age.

57 games

.289/.430/.422 with 5HR and 5SB. He’s a good athlete with big power projection and a sweet lefty swing. He walked more than he struck out as well. With our system lacking a bit of position player depth in the lower levels, he should be able to pop quickly if he continues hitting.

Posted
didn't add any guys who were signed this year from the INTL, so Rojas and Pereira don't make it yet. Just missed: Lynch, Cortes, Brewer, Green

No Cannan Smith?

nvm saw your last post

Helium alert in the AFL.

Albert Abreu and Justus Sheffield are dominating the AFL, a classic hitters league. Sheffield's stuff is playing up per Law and others. Fastball topping out in the high 90s, slider looking plus and a change that has gotten refined. He is looking like a top of the rotation starter

Abreu is showing high 90s heat as well with a power curve. His delivery has been a little erratic, but he is absolutely dominating hitters there.

Cody Carroll has yet to allow a run in 3 appearances, striking out 6 in 4 innings (walked 3, though).

Estevan Florial has shown his talents in limited action (7 for 18) but has also shown he needs to work on pitch recognition. He showed true 70 speed as well as an uncanny ability to crush fastballs.

Future is bright my friend!!!

I'm really excited about Florial, if he's able to fix his swing, he will be aforce

Posted
There isn't anything to "fix" per se. He is 19 years old facing guys 3-4 years his senior. He has a pitch recognition issue that should improve with time. Either we will see more walks or less strikeouts, and I will take either

Florial and Estrada are hitting the cover off the ball in the AFL. Holder is hitting well also and McKinney leads his team in RBI. Abreu and Sheffield are dominating on the mound and Carroll has allowed 2 hits in 7IP and functioning as the teams closer. The only Yankee AFL prospect who is getting lit up is Schwaab,
Posted

3 of our 4 pitchers are really lighting up the AFL.

Cody Carroll still hasn’t allowed a run. He’s functioning as the club’s closer. He’s gone 9 scoreless innings with 2 hits, 4 walks and 14K

Albert Abreu has been completely dominant in a hitters league. 4 starts, 19IP (starters don’t got more than 5IP or 80 pitches). 2.37ERA, 20K, 1.05WHIP

Sheffield has been even better. 19IP 21K 0.79WHIP 2.37ERA and is showing high 90s heat and a hammer breaking ball. The arrow is pointing straight up for him

Scout.com came out with their top 50. Their rankings are intriguing for sure. Pat Teale usually has guys with similar upside but closer proximity higher on his list, but he loves Guzman. He’s got him all the way up to #4. Acevedo down to #12, although not really a fault of his own.

SYSTEM OVERVIEW

Strengths: Undoubtedly, the Yankees' system's biggest strength in its pitching. That's particularly true when it comes to hard-throwing righthanders. Six of their Top 10 are pitchers, and five of those are power righthanders. Four of those five touched 100 mph or better. And they're all behind Justus Sheffield, who touched 98 mph from the left side in the Arizona Fall League.

Weaknesses: Although the system is one of the deepest in the game, there's virtually no catching prospects on the rise. The best option is Kyle Higashioka, who had a breakout year in 2016 and made his major league debut, but missed most of 2017 recovering from injuries. The next catching prospects—Jason Lopez and Saul Torres—played at short-season Staten Island and Rookie-level Pulaski, respectively.

BEST TOOLS

Best Hitter for Average: Nick Solak.

Best Power Hitter: Dermis Garcia.

Best Strike-Zone Discipline: Mike Ford.

Fastest Baserunner: Estevan Florial.

Best Athlete: Estevan Florial.

Best Fastball: Jorge Guzman.

Best Curveball: Luis Medina.

Yankees used the Ohtani money nabbing Outfielder Raimfer Salinas and catcher Antonio Cabello. They’re the #11 and #15 prospects from the 2017 class giving NYY 5 of the top 20.

Scouting grades: Hit: 60 | Power: 50 | Run: 50 | Arm: 60 | Field: 50

For now, Salinas might be best known for his bat, but the rest of his tools are not far behind. In fact, there's a belief the young outfielder has the potential to be a legitimate five-tool player and an impact player in the near future.

For starters, scouts like Salinas' body frame and its potential. He's also a sound defender and his plus arm is already an asset. Salinas is already a decent runner, whether it's on the basepaths or roaming the outfield, and there's a belief he will get faster.

At the plate, Salinas has shown an advanced approach and good bat speed. He's been able to hit to all fields while also showing some home run power. Salinas' overall tools package could land him in the middle of the lineup one day as a possible run producer. Scouts like his makeup and his overall confidence in his abilities.

Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 50 | Run: 55 | Arm: 55 | Field: 50

Cabello could be the most athletic prospect on the international market this year.

The teenager is known primarily as a catcher, but Cabello could also play second base and center field. He has a strong body and has been clocked at 6.45 seconds in the 60-yard dash. Cabello also hits in games and his makeup is considered off of the charts. He has built a reputation as a tough and hard-nosed competitor who hates to lose.

Fellow Venezuelan catcher prospect Daniel Flores might be a better defender, but Cabello has also earned praise as a good receiver with solid catching and throwing abilities. Cabello has been praised for his ability to block balls and a quick release that gives him a chance to throw out even the best of potential basestealers.

Cabello is still working on fine-tuning his overall offensive game, and like most prospects his age, he is working on his approach against secondary and offspeed pitches.
