The thread title is Worst Red Sox pitcher. He really sucked it for us.

I think we can find someone less impressive than a 40+ pitcher who barely spent one year on the team...

The thing is, of course, that if a pitcher puts up truly horrendous numbers he's unlikely to stick around for long.

True. But the same generally goes for any pitcher over forty.

I think some sort of minimum innings qualifier is needed. Otherwise, why go so far back? Why not Kyle Kendrick?

I still like the inclusion of Ramiro Mendoza, who killed the Sox for years, and then when we finally acquired him, was once described on Sports Center by Keith Olbermann as "still secretly pitching for the Yankees."

Is there any lower praise?

Mendoza also has a curious little stat attached to him forever - he was the losing pitcher in Game 3 of the 2004 ALCS - although he was only charged with 1 of the 19 runs. I think that outing was also his last as a Red Sox.

By no means the worst pitcher in Red Sox pitcher, but probably the most star-crossed would be our old pal Bob Stanley. Poor Bob factored in two of the most crushing losses in franchise history, the 1978 playoff game and 1986 WS Game 6.
