When Did You Become a Sox Fan?

My family moved when I was 10 in 1975. Following the Sox that summer / fall helped me forget how much I missed my buddies from the old neighborhood. I was hooked.

I still play a lot of softball and run into quite a few ex-minor leaguers now reduced to old mens slow pitch softball. One of my team mates played in 1962 and 1963 for the Waterloo Hawks and ran into Rico Petrocelli who played for Winston Salem at that time. Rico made it up and back to the Sox a couple of times and then stuck for a long career around 1964. Waterloo and Winston Salem were both A ball in 1963 so they touched base there so to speak.

 

Kind of fun to get perspective on how things were in the minors back then. One guy playing in NC where I spend the summers played for the Phillies so its hard to take the ball playing away from the boys.
