I don't think anyone understood it. Wright has been horrible all season and we have a chance to get a quality start out of him, he looked done at the end of the 6th, and he brings him out for another three batters? WHY? it makes no sense.

 

This isn't a hindsight thing either, numerous people said he shouldn't of been out there on this thread.

Wright may be OK for 2-3 inning stints (middle innings) out of the pen. He makes a good chang-of-oace once in awhile. But, coninue as a starter? No way!

This year more the any I can remember the Sox pitchers have been terrible at covering first base. That too is on Farrell--weak fundamentals.

Scott should have faced Jay. He waited one batter late. Scott had no wiggle room. Plus not calling strike three on Bryant was a killer.

Farrell gave that game away. Up one, your worst starter just gave you 6 innings and you have a lead. That is not the time to try and stretch your knuckleballer out, especially against the defending champs. That was insanely dumb

I thought throwing at Machado was unnecessary, but, as I recall, 90% of talksox was in favor of Barnes doing what he did. It was an article of faith on this board that that slide by Machado was one of the most vicious slides in the history of MLB. I'm talking hatred, standing up for Pedroia, defending the honor of Boston, you name it.

 

Now suddenly none of that was important?

It was a last resort move. There was noone else left and he won't use Kimbrel for 3+ outs.

I'm really getting concerned about the defense. You can't give bad teams 4 and 5 outs, much less good teams.

 

4 errors and a PB today. Farrell's braincramp and Sox D is the difference in the game.
