I seriously think you need to beam Machado. His leg was up for the spike, there was no question about it. This Baltimore team isn't going to be our pals all year. Let's just get it going. You can't do that crap to our players....

Agree completely. It was one of the cheapest shots I've ever seen Machado barely touched the bag (if he touched it at all) with his lead foot. He may not have "intended" to hurt Pedey but it was typical Machado - doing what he wants to do and then getting a pass on it because he's a talented player.

And then that ********** Showalter tries to protect him by saying " I haven't looked at (the replay) but I know how those things seem to play out now the next day."

Personally I hope the Sox stick one in Machado's ear today - metaphorically speaking, of course.

Showalter has been a d-bag consistently.

A mentally tough team will respond. That will start with the manager. What I mean is 90 in the ribs. If a brawl induces so be it. Some times it's about the respect for your teammates. The respect the players have for Farrell. That's more important. A message should come out of this. As David Ortiz said before when he was playing.

We are the F'N Boston Red Sox!!

I could not be sicker of things like face first slides. They don't necessarily have to nail that nutbag from the mound. It's a long season. Play harder - play tougher - not dirtier and your time comes.

The loss hurts especially when the pitching over all ws good but win today and make things right. I was not expecting to sweep Baltimore (although it would have been nice) if we can take 2 wins I'm happy. Wright is up today which makes me nervous. He has been wildly inconsistent this year but he rebounded nice last game after a rough first inning.

That slide reminds me of how Ty Cobb, one of the meanest players ever, is reputed to have slid into 2b. Now, however, there is a rule designed to protect infielders. The problem in this case is that Machado did in fact slide directly into the bag. It was a late slide to give him a better chance of beating the throw and in fact he almost did. It was a close play on the force out. Apparently, that's the way Pedroia sees it too. Given that, I'm going with Pedroia despite the graphic evidence of the replay.

i agree. I also think that a Ty Cobb minor dose right about now wouldn't hurt these guys at all. Hell I'd even settle for Pete Rose or even let me see who was that guy who caught for us just a few years ago? Jason something or other!

I admire your mature attitude. I even wish I could agree with it! However, I think it's time the Sox made the statement that they're not going to take this s*** from the Orioles or their douche-bag manager.

Were it up to me I'd start Joe (100+mph) Kelly today and I'd let him pitch until he buries one in Machado's ribs. Then after Kelly gets ejected from the game I'd come back with my real starter.

Oh I get where you are coming from. I don't want them to walk away from s*** incidents like this either. I just think that this team might be about 90% too soft for me. I love them but they need to be tougher. I'm not even sure Kelly would be up to it.

Are you saying that Kelly is no Ryan Dempster? :D

Kind of why I was a big Johnny Gomes fan. Kind of like the old Trotter too. I always liked the athletes who did not start things but really weren't afraid to finish things when the heat got turned up.

Hand the Os a 5 spot just to drill Machado? No thanks.

Yep. Like many of us, I have the iconic picture of 'Tek, AFraud and the "leather sandwich" over my desk at home.

BTW, I hear that's the only picture 'Tek refuses to autograph. He's apparently not proud of how he handled that situation - while most Sox fans love it!!

One of the hardest things to teach young athletes is that it is possible to be tough and maybe even a little mean but still be a human being. Don't let the *******s of the world get inside your head. I worked with a lot of kids who new that they could have kicked someone's ass in a fight but it was more important for us all it they were able to walk away from the taunts. I understand why tek might not have considered that one of his finer moments it is just that every now and then you have to do what you have to do. he was our kind of player!

I am all for retaliation if the team deems it necessary.

That said, it must be done the right way, which means absolutely no head hunting (in the ribs like you said). Also, winning the game is more important, IMO. In other words, don't do something stupid that's going to jeopardize the game in any way. If payback has to wait until the next game, then so be it.

The best form of retaliation is to beat the crap out of them in the game.

I will always admire Dempster for that plunk.

He was certainly a man of the people that day.

I loved Ghomes. Plus he happened to look sort of like Charles Manson.

Who the f*** would want to fight that?
