Some need to really chillax on clay. Guy pitched a more than quality start. Tonight wasn't good enough? It doesn't count until he pitches a QS against the o's next start? Give me a fukking break.

I think it's more less you just never know what to expect from him. But I do agree it seems when he has a nice game it's not talked about but as soon as he has a bad game were all over him. I'm guilty of this too. I hope he proves me wrong against Baltimore and plays lights out

Yea....... it's like we got those two guys that were in the balcony in the Muppets Show posting every night and they have taken a major dislike to Clay.....

I concur Sir.

Clay did fine, but he is a crapshoot. He can't be trusted to start a big game.

Maybe so.

However since Farrell killed Wright , E-Rod has been inconsistent ( regardless of his counting numbers ) , and Pom Pom has looked really f***ing soft.

As things stand, Buch is my 3rd starter in the playoffs.

Of course do to the inconsistent nature of those two guys this could all change.

While Buch, Pom and ERod have not been models of consistency, I think Pom has been the most consistent. Until his last start, his prior 7 starts since the beginning of August have been very consistent. ERod has been very spotty over his last 4 starts since the hamstring injury. Buch has only had 6 starts since July 1st and in half of them he was Bad Clay.

Another tightwire act by Kimbrel. Sad!

Mr. Kimbrel is very fortunate I'm not sitting in John Farrells's seat. If I were I'd be seriously considering Koji as the closer now. Regardless of the outcome, I'm sick of Kimbrel's tightrope acts, especially when Koji is getting it done without the drama.

You two do realize tonight's mess was made by Abad and Kimbrel cleaed it up by striking out the only 2 guys he faced, right?

Why can't our starter pitch a complete game everytime?!?!? Rabble rabble rabble...

Yes, my post was clearly sarcasm directed at another poster who said Kimbrel shouldn't be closer anymore.

Your reading comprehension. Sad!

That's easy to say after the fact. My post was put up before Kimbrel came into the game. Kimbrel has struggled with control in his past several outings and Koji is looking like he thinks it's 2013 again. Were Farrell I'd still be considering swapping Kimbrel and Koji's roles, but Kimbrel bought a couple of more outings with last night's performance.

If what Farrell is doing is working I'm all for it, but if it starts to falter I don't want to watch this season circle the drain because of some preordained rule that Kimbrel and only Kimbrel can pitch the 9th.

Can't disagree here. I don't have a lot of conviction when it comes to my opinion.

Maybe Pom Pom can get it done.

Is anyone worried about his innings?

So you're classifying last night as Bad Clay?

I really don't have a clue as the number of innings as a predictor of injury, but I think baseball medical staffs are in the same position. There is no solid science behind any of these innings protocols/theories. They may have some statistical studies, but I hate to break it to the Sabremetricians -- that is not science. I would be concerned if I saw a downturn in his performance, but he has been pretty consistent since Aug 1 with the exception of his last start.

You're right, the science is very inexact, as it often is with health matters.

We had the 'Verducci effect' thing a few years ago when Tom Verducci noticed that a lot of pitchers with big innings jumps were getting hurt.

Then there was the Strasburg controversy, and last year the Matt Harvey controversy - which probably added some fuel to the argument that it's better to err on the side of caution.

I was not even thinking of injury as it would relate to Pom's innings. I was only wondering if fatigue would become an issue.
His last start could be signaling fatigue, or it could just be one of those things. The pitching coach needs to figure that out.
