The thing about a pitcher like Wilson with a 4 ERA is that if your luck is bad you're going to catch him on one of those nights where he's got his best stuff.

 

Mike Mussina said that over the course of a season with 32 starts he would have 8 starts where everything was working, 16 where something was working and 8 where nothing was working.

 

And that was by a guy who is a borderline Hall of Fame candidate.

 

I said the other day that any pitcher at the major league level has the ability to shut any team down. What separates the great ones from the mediocre ones is how often they can do it.
