Going with Shaw amid a wide field of candidates. My tiebreaker is... hmm, how shall I put this -- his excellent performance is highlighted in contrast to what we could have been stuck with. But for Shaw, 3B would have been a major problem position for us yet again, and instead he leads the team in bWAR and looks like he may be our 3B going forward.

 

You do not know this. Obviously, Pablo's injury has thrown a kink into this discussion, but had Pablo been healthy and our starting 3B, you don't know that 3B would have been a major problem.

 

Not taking anything away from Shaw. He has been nothing short of awesome.

About him being the 3rd baseman going forward, I'm not so sure.

 

It's possible that he could be back at first next year if Hanley goes to DH. Who knows who will play 3rd next year? It's far from being determined.

 

But I am pleased with what Shaw has shown defensively at either position.

 

Assuming Shaw continues to play like he has been it's going to be .... interesting.. to see what the FO does about the 3B situation. It's my hope that they don't displace Travis Shaw to make a spot for Sandoval and move Shaw to 1B. I'd much prefer that Sandoval be playing in another team's uni next year and Hanley and that other Travis do battle for the 1B & DH positions.

Yes I do. Pablo sandoval spent last year being the worst professional in the major leagues and is going to spend this season being hurt. If Shaw wasn't there, 3b would be a major problem position for a team that's trying to contend, both because of the fact that Pablo can't do his job at the moment due to injury, and because you have no idea what he'll be capable of post-surgery.
