Bogaerts has a weird glitch in his swing's backstep. It's like he's always trying to go the other way.
But that glitch is not there when he hits a ball like yesterday's Home Run. I agree about the glitch. I am just puzzled how it is not there at times and he hits the ball a mile.

He doesn't do the double backstep on any of the homerun swings I have checked. It may be just an approach thing. Jeter would inside out a lot of pitches, but he had a different setup/followthrough for balls he wanted to pull hard. I have the feeling Bogaerts has that 25+ HR bat sleeping inside him, but it will take a while to harness his power. For some guys, it's all about pitch selection: What do you inside out/flare the other way, what do you drive.

Does anyone know what the exit velocity was on his Home Run ball? That shows me his power potential, not his average exit velocity. The average is lower because as you say his "approach" is different in most of his other ABs.

You have no way of knowing that. It is just your opinion. And we had a very serious and immediate need at closer, and DD got us the best one in the game today. IMO not an overpay. You need to put these posts in the Dead Horse thread.

1. We had and still have Koji, who has arguably been as dominant as Kimbrel so far. It was a very good move to get another closer due to Koji's age and last year's injury. However, saying we had a very serious and immediate need at closer is hyperbole.

2. I will put my posts in the thread of the post I am responding to.

According to ESPN's Home Run Tracker, 99 mph.

The bullpen was a steaming pile of garbage last year. That we had an immediate need was not hyperbole at all.
