Anniversary year for one of the best series of all time. Watched some video today. Just for remembering sake, everyone should watch the catch Evans made that evening. If you were a alive and a Sox fan at this time, you probably remember game 6 as well as any that you can recall. The crowd when Tiant left the game. Lynn's early homer. The throw by Foster. Carlton Fisk of course and last but certainly not least BERNIE CARBO!

When Morgan hit the ball that Evans caught, I thought it was long gone. That was when I realized for the first time how deep right field at Fenway is. For it to turn into an inning-ending double play seemed like a miracle.

Morgan would get his revenge the next night, unfortunately.

Although it looked pretty clear that Bench made the tag in time, can you imagine how many times they would have looked at Foster's throw if video review had been in effect. We might still be waiting today for them to finish that series!

What an exciting series that was. I can remember feeling despondent when we were down 3 runs in game 6 and my Dad told me that we still had a chance and then Carbo hit the home run and then more tense exciting baseball followed by elation. What a collection of ball players on both teams -- Yaz, Lynn, Dewey, Fisk, Tiant, Bench, Rose, Morgan, Perez, Griffey, and Foster ---Jim Rice was on the DL. So much talent on those two teams.

I too remember this great series. The Big Red Machine!!!!!

My memories are quite clear of one game, unfortunately.

I was working for a company that provided contract Facilities Management for Hospitals. I had been sent to HG Goodall Hospital in Sanford, Maine for about two weeks.

The town had only one motel and it was a lively one. As I lay in my bed watching the game Fisk hit his hand waving homer, a young couple was having a raging knock out fight in the room across the hall that climaxed with gunfire.

I was scared shitless. I called the front office and they called the Police. The police came and took the two cretins away.

Oh yes. It was a memorable series.

You have had a very interesting life.

Hey - there can't be any cretins in Sanford (lol) I was teaching. Went to bed when they fell behind late. Some of the boys stayed up. No sleeping after Carbo connected. Those two teams were literally loaded with talent top to bottom. Sparky gave the Reds an advantage. Great series featuring lots of future Hall of famers!

You were lucky. Usually, if you're in a motel in a small Maine town that most people have never heard of, it means you're in a Stephen King novel and about to be murdered or sucked into another dimension.

This time you do have it right. Please please don't come to Maine. You folks stay down there in the big city. We have nothing up here that you would ever be interested in. Tax rate is too high - too cold - you stay down there.

Too late, I've already been to Maine and I love it. I plan to move there someday.

I have to agree with the original premise of this thread, by the way. Obviously I wasn't alive to witness this series, but from everything I know it is definitely one of the best. However, I know I may be in the minority here, I think the 1991 Series is the best. Followed by 75 and then probably a bunch of others all tied for third. I wish I could put 2004 up there, but it just wasn't a great series of baseball games. The historical nature of the win is all that really distinguished it. No incredible pitching performances, extra inning games, or hard-fought, dramatic wins. Sweeps are rarely memorable as individual games. After the 2004 ALCS, the World Series was almost anticlimactic.

We would welcome you to Maine. Just remember, it will be 20 plus years before you are eligible to apply for your Maine card. If you need a sponsor to help you cross the border, let me know. I would be glad to help you out. All kidding aside, it has been an absolutely beautiful place to grow up in in and to raise a family in. I don't ski anymore plus I don't work anymore so I am not nuts about the winter thus a few months in the sunny south at least for now. 1967 season and series featured things that I will remember for the rest of my life.

Oh but the way - I just had a thought. When Mazeroski hit his homer in 1960, I was 9. That game led me on my lifelong journey of disliking the Yankees.

I know exactly what you're saying. But it was anticlimactic in a good way. And I have to confess that until we got the final out in Game 4 I was still being tormented by thoughts that we might find a way not to win it.
