What is your view on what Rich Hill has done in September?

Three games is always too small a sample to judge anything by, but I'm sure he has at least piqued management's interest. It is unlikely that he will continue to pitch as well as he has in these three games, but he should be a good addition to any rotation. His K/W ratio is a good sign.

 

I don't see where there will be any room in the rotation to start the season unless Miley or Kelly is traded. Signing him to a minor league contract would be ideal, but he is sure to get a decent major league deal from some team.

I can't see this guy being part of our plans next season or beyond. He is 34 and is finally healthy for the first time in 7 seasons. He has to seize the moment. He is not going to be looking for a minor league contract. He will want a legit chance to crack a major league rotation. He will not get that in Boston with the glut of mediocre starters that we have. If he can't get a major league starting spot, I think he will go to Japan.

As the Rich Hill spuerfan, I must state that the Sox should make room for him, but the greater need is at the top of the rotation, not guys 2-5.

i f the Red Sox were coming off a winning season instead of back to back last place performances, I think they would give Hill every opportunity to win a spot next season. After back to back last place finishes and 3 out of the last four seasons in last place, I don't think they will take the risk that he will finally stay healthy and perform well as a starter for the first time at age 35.
