Ask any sports fan to name 3 Tampa Rays hitters other than Evan Longoria and I'll bet they will go 0 for 3. I' m not getting too excited about Rich Hill's Red Sox future.

The power is there. I'm sure the homeruns will come with experience. That said, I would much rather have him hitting like he has this year with fewer HRs then have him swinging for the fences and have his overall numbers suffer as a result.
it wasn't a criticism. It is surprising to me and I am wondering if it is a product of a conscious change in approach.

The Rays do suck. I think it was one of those "we've never faced this starter" type things the Red Sox can suffer from.

Finally! I was so afraid that the offense was going to let us down after a great pitching performance.

Great win! Third place, here we come!

YES!! DJ Kitty MOJO!

On a side note.... GO ROGER FEDERER!!!!

Strange game. Lovullo meant it by giving Ortiz and some guys a day off, no pinch hitting at all. As the season wraps, the team is becoming a solid group, without either Panda or Hanley making any contribution. Imagine how better they'd be if those two actually performs?

I miss Hanley's bat but it's not worth his glove in LF. But you are right.

I didn't watch any of the games, and I got Guyer, Souza, and Asdrubal

Four things:

1. It doesn't matter if people can name the Rays hitters or not. All that really tells you is that people don't follow the Rays very closely.

2. Even if their hitters weren't very good, holding them to one questionable hit in 7 innings is a very good pitching performance.

3. Take a look at the Rays' team BA in the months of August and September. They're not as bad as you think they are.

4. No one is annointing Rich Hill our ace of the future.

Sometimes you just have to give credit for a job well done.

Their batting average in August and September? I thought batting average didn't matter to you stat geeks, but 6 weeks of batting average holds some significance? Please be consistent. lol!

A 4 point post to refute that what ... I am right that Rich Hill is not our pitching solution or that he beat a pretty bad offensive team? Why do you think that Rich Hill is important enough to have a debate about? Lol!

Edit: As far as credit goes, of course Hill gets credit for pitching a good game and Jim Bunning got credit for his perfect game, but it is worth noting that it was against the Mets.

I never said batting average didn't matter. I have often said it is not the best choice of stats to use to guage a batter's performance. That said, there are times when using BA is applicable. I was honestly going to explain why I chose BA in my previous post, but then I thought to myself, it really shouldn't be necessary to explain why. But, I guess it is.

My post in regards to Hill's great outing pointed out that he held the Rays to one hit in 7 innings. Not one baserunner. Not one run. Not one extra base hit. One hit. The Rays' BA shows that they have been getting hits at the 3rd best rate in the AL lately. Hill was able to shut them down.

My post was an attempt to get you to realize that Hill pitched a great game. There is no need to try to lessen his accomplishment.

Great game. Lousy Opposing Offense. Way too much blather about it.
