Dumbo is good too. I don't think I started with Benny the Boob in the offseason. I at least waited until Spring Training. People jumped all over me when I used it. Flame wars started. It is interesting that it is already open season on DD, and only you are saying to give him a chance.

I'm giving him a chance. So far he has done nothing that makes me scratch my head.

My only gripe about him is that he looks like a sales manager at a car dealership with his circa 1974 Tommy Heinsohn attire.

This is Boston. He looks out of place.

To date his moves have made perfect sense. Anyone who finds fault with what he has done so far, is really just looking for something to talk about. I was at Herb Chamber's place the other day Spud - DD looks to me like he would fit in very well there.

He has done nothing so far that makes me scratch my head either. My only gripe so far has been the cost of acquiring Kimbrel and Price, but even with that, acquiring Kimbrel did not gut the farm, nor did it keep us from getting Price, and acquiring Price should not handcuff the team financially, even if he does not opt out.

Kazmir to the Dodgers on a 3 year deal. The only guy left who won't cost a draft pick is Maeda.

I don't think any of these guys are worth the draft pick/money besides maybe Chen. It is starting to feel like we aren't getting a #2.

Yeah, that ship sailed. DUMBrowski seems to think it's either not necessary, or that he can pick one up midyear if need be.

Either that, or John Henry doesn't feel like adding another $16 million or so to a payroll that's already well over the tax threshold.

Blame it on Ben!

Damnit Cher Bear! You should have gotten a 2 last year!!!

Honestly though, the Panda and Hanley contracts are killing this team right now. Whoever wanted those two (Ben, Larry, Werner, Vlad Dracul) should be thrown into the bay in mid February.

Jeremy Kaperstein sitting behind home plate with his yellow headphones was the evil genius behind it all. He had to go!
I haven't trusted him since the 1970's.

The question is how long will it be before he gets injured. Our OF is a wild card going into the season. Can Rusney be a productive full time OFer? Did Bradley turn a corner in 2015?

Rusney Castillo to play in Puerto Rican League playoffs

12.31.15 at 1:56 pm ET

By John Tomase

Red Sox outfielder Rusney Castillo, who wasn’t expected to play any winter ball this offseason, will join Criollos de Caguas in the Puerto Rican League playoffs, according to WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford.

Caguas, managed by former Red Sox infielder Alex Cora, will play 12 games as part of a round-robin tournament. The playoffs begin on Jan. 2, and Castillo is expected to debut on Jan. 4.

This will be Castillo’s second stint with the team. He hit .405 with a homer for it last year in 10 games after an abbreviated eight-game stint in the Arizona Fall League that had been cut short by a thumb injury.

This is a big season for the 28-year-old, who enters spring training as the team’s starting left fielder and is looking to deliver on the seven-year, $72.5 million contract he signed late in the 2014 season.

Castillo is a lifetime .262 hitter with a .680 OPS in 329 big league plate appearances.

Admittedly, depending on pieces like Castillo, JBJ, Panda and Hanley doesn't look great. Having a guy going on 40 with a bum Achilles on his last year still be the center piece of whatever offense the Sox can produce is also not that appealing.

But there are so many FA's left out there still looking for work....no telling where those guys are going to end up. If the O's don't have Davis, that is pretty much a different team for one. So far it looks like they have decided to wait it out and hope Davis comes back to them. For Davis's part, the O's offer seems to have hung out there as the best offer for a long time now. Gotta' think interested teams have already thought this through and are just not willing to best it.

The yapping has already started! Where are bautista and encarnarcion apt to be in 2017. Many think that Boston will get one or the other. I know - I know - no love here for Hanley. That is one issue for sure for some. My issue is that I am going to have to learn how to say encarnarcion. I can't spell either name but I like how they hit.

I get the latest be for Bradley, but due to his history, I'd have shipped him out of here this winter. Keeping him is rolling the dice that his one good month is for real, rather than a few years of proof which points otherwise

Bradley is an elite defender, so all he needs is an OPS is the .700 range. His minor league numbers suggest he can do it. But he's still an unknown quantity offensively, certainly.

I'm not sure what kind of contracts Encarnacion and Bautista will command, but I hope that the Sox don't sign either of them to a huge contract. Encarnacion will be 34 at the beginning of next season and Bautista will be 36. I realize that they are both very good hitters right now, but chances are that age will catch up to them within the next couple of years.

There is a premium on defense right now, especially up the middle. I personally love the idea of having one of the best defensive outfields in baseball. I think that he will hit enough to warrant him being a starting center fielder (or right fielder).
