3 runs does not make a bad game, or a pitcher inconsistent.

Dont look at the just the 3 runs. He is fortunate. Control hasnt been great.

Too much inconsistency with this team right now. Their offense is suppose to be a strenght but not hitting as a team. They need to split this series at least. Masterson goes tomorrow. Yikes!

You see, 5 runs in 5 IP. That's something you can justify complaining about. Still, game is far from over.

But you know people are going to turn a less than 15 game sample size of struggles and turn it into "the pitching staff is teh sux!!!111!!" and force everyone with any shred of logic and patience to fight the urge to hurl themselves in front of a moving bus out of frustration.

They are off to a good start but the pitching was always the question mark with this team. Its showing early.

It's also been less than 15 games. All 5 starters have a history of success and have shown signs of effectiveness or better so far. Therefore, certain people in the Red Sox fanbase need to smoke a f***ing joint and relax before waving the white flag or riding BC's ass to trade for 31 year old Cole Hamels.

Very true. They need to make sure they stay above 500.

The thing you gotta be worried about

is the bullpen being taxed. I expect farrell to keep masterson in the game tomorrow until his arm falls off.

5 Home Runs in 3 games is not a good sign for a sinker ball pitcher and neither is 4 ground ball outs today. This guy is no $20/year pitcher, not even at today's inflated prices. Congrats Ben on setting a new market level for mediocre #3 starters. Kershaw must be worth $50/year now.

He's made 3 starts, one of which was bad.

He's coming from the AL Central into the East. An adjustment period could've been expected.

He's 26 and coming off of the best year of his career and a few starts doesn't outweigh a career's worth of groundball tendencies.

20 million per year is far from ridiculous when you look at where the market for pitching is at today. Locking up a guy of Porcello's age and talent for 20 per is a smart move by BC and one that I think will work out providing the front office is more patient than the fanbase.

The thing with porcello is that he is not a hard thrower to be getting paid 20 mil per year. He was awful today but lets see how his season goes along.

The FO should have been more patient about handing out $82 million extensions. That is where the patience should have been exercised. There's nothing to be patient about now. We have him for 4 years, and it will be what it will be. Patience is not a question now.

And what if he pulled a Jon Lester and had an amazing season to the point where his price tag skyrocketed up and out of the arena in which the Red Sox were comfortable? Locking up 26 year old pitchers with good peripherals who are coming off of great seasons is a smart allocation of resources, regardless of how well or poorly their first 3 starts may have went.

way too early to judge Porcello, he has 2 good start. Today he was mediocre, and shouldn't pitch beyond the 5th.

Amen.

Spark those fatties.

Porcello is not the type of pitcher that is hard to replace. The Tigers replaced Porcello with Shane Greene who is having a fantastic start and is only 1 month older than Porcello but under team control through 2020.

I also like the AL Central vs AL East even though the AL Central scored more runs per game than the AL East last year and that does not include Detroit.

Ortiz is probably frustrated with how the team is playing currently. We really need masterson to give us a decent start tomorrow.

His stuff isn't close to being comparable to Lester's stuff. Lester misses bats and strikes out about 100 more guys a year than Pussello. He was also our 1 for the last 4 years. This guy Porcello is number 3 until he proves otherwise. Number 3s don't get $20 million/year for 4 years.

Three things I'd like to cover here.

1. Pussello? Grow the f*** up. You're a grown man.

2. Lester is 31 years old and is going to be paid 155 million dollars over the next 6 years.

3. Look at the market for pitching right now and honestly tell me 82 million over 4 years is ridiculous for Porcello. It's far from absurd when you look at what other pitchers who aren't 26 and coming off of career years are getting.
