I haven't decided if I will make it to Fort Myers this year. I figure A700 is going, but is anyone else going?

I can't wait to hit the reset button and start again. I see lots of reason for optimism.

I'm with both of you. I can not wait for the new season to begin. Even if the Patriots are now center stage, my heart is with the Sox!

think I will. I wasn't really thinking about because i hate the traffic but I am a little excited. I will be even more excited with just one more signing.

Agree with the sentiment here. I'm excited for the new season to start. I've been watching the football playoffs (Go Pats!), but I'm not really much of a football fan. For me, it's all about baseball and the Red Sox. Baseball season cannot start soon enough.

The months between the end of football and start of baseball are some of the coldest days of the year.

Especially if the Bruins fall out of the playoff picture. Florida trails them by only four points for the last spot and has played three fewer games.

I can still remember sitting by the radio (of all things right - I'm one of those old guys) and listening to the Celtics. Baseball and basketball have always been two of my greatest loves. The Celtics were a constant reliable force that I could count on as a kid growing up. After Russell and Havlicek went, I never thought I would see them compete at that level again and then along came Larry. 1986 - Could be the greatest team of all time. Point being - man did those teams help me get to the spring and summer.

Truck Day in 2 weeks. Two weeks people :D
I love Truck Day. I start my count down to my ST trip. Warm weather, beaches and Red Sox baseball. Sounds miserable. LOL!!

I like sports in general but even with the Super Bowl a little more than a week away I'm sick of football and right now with the Lakers deep in bottom of the river that sport does little for me. Truth be told, to me it's baseball and the rest of the sports can hang way far away in my rear view mirror. I hope to take two trips to Fenway this season and maybe next season I will go to ST where I can meet up with some of my friends on this board. The difference between ST this season and last is that even though we were coming in as defending WS Champions, we all knew that the odds of repeating were almost nil. This year we know we will be better than we were last year. How much is the question but our chances at this moment are as good as anyone else in the division, and if we could somehow latch on to a solid No. 1 pitcher and not have to give up Betts or Swihart we could come out of it as favorites for the division title. Besides, Spring has always been my favorite time of year and I'm sure baseball has most to do about that.

Fred, what times of the year have you been out here before? Do you typically only come out for opening day?

I have been to the Home Opening Series in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, and 2014. You think I would learn and wait until it got warmer. I may be a Red Sox fanatic but I have California blood and I have literally frozen my ass off in all those series. I went to those through RS Destinations and they sit you up by the Coke Bottle where the winds blows in from the Bay. Last year I was chattering and shaking so badly I had to go to the standing section just to keep warm. Hell, in 2009 I went in early June and froze then as well but we swept the Yankees three straight so that was a nice consolation. I have gone in September and playoff times in 2007 and 2013. I like to take two trips to Boston each season, though sometimes it is only one and sometime it's three.

You lived in California and I wonder how long it was and whether you developed a phobia for cold and windy weather. I like it warm. This year, God willing, I want to go in July and in playoff mode in October. And I promise myself and everyone else, if the Sox get into the WS I want to be there just once when they win the final game whether it's on the road or at home. I missed by three games in 2013 but did see them clinch the pennant against the Tigers. How many series do you go to and how many are you planning to take in this uyear mvp?

I had similar experiences except I started following the Bruins more closely during the Bobby Orr era. I could watch practically every game on channel 38. Of course it was a fuzzy UHF picture that required a lot of twisting and turning of that little round antenna that was attached to the back of the television.

Are you from Massachusetts? I graduated from Masconomet in 1971.

Fred, I only lived in CA for three years so I never got an aversion to cold. With a young son, it's too much of a pain in the ass to go to Sox games. Last year we had much more fun going to the PawSox.

Early spring games are the worst. Cold. Damp. Not my idea of a good time. You should definitely check out some summer games. The early evening games in late summer are my favorite time to go. Afternoon games can be too hot then.

I am from Maine. I did watch the Bruins as well during the Bobby Orr era. Also on channel 38! I got you but just by 2 years. My God - you are one of the "old ones" as well. God help our lot of know-nothings. What wonderful thrills we have had through the years. Hate to admit this but when I was young the Patriots did not exist and I grew up a Giants fan as did most of my friends. 1958- Colts vs Giants - channel 13. I was hooked. My daughters both live in MA today and their husbands are football and Patriot fanatics. I have learned to appreciate that team and franchise - no choice!

Where in Maine? My parents owned a cottage in Harrison, Maine, on Long Lake from 1961 until about 2007. When I graduated from college in 1976, I moved to Portland and worked at Tower Publishing on Middle Street in the Old Port.

I live in Harrison. I could hit both lakes (Crystal and Long) with a driver from my front lawn. Now that is interesting! I am also fairly familiar with the Old Port!

That is interesting! You must live near downtown. My parents also owned the airport on Maple Ridge. Our cottage was fire lane 15 on (I think) route 35. When I was a kid, we spent every summer there in the 1960s. As an adult, my wife, kids, and I went there every summer in the 1980s through the early 1990s.

I live about 4 miles from the aiport. My father flew a little piper cub out of there in the early 60's. I used to run up around that ridge very often. One of the most beautiful places! Looks like we got something in common. It is still pretty nice up here in western Maine. Route 35 is a little rough during frost heave season.

My parents bought the airport in the early 1970s. A guy named Milton owned it until then.

I used to go to the Market Basket as a kid to buy five packs of baseball cards for me and The Boston Globe for my parents every morning.

As an adult, I would run every morning to buy coffee at the Tie Up. Did you grow up on Harrison?

No - I grew up about 15 miles away. Moved to Harrison in 1981. Still do a lot of business at both stores. It was a wonderful place to raise our family.

You won't have to suggest to me twice mvp because summer it is. That ought to make my average of two trips to Fenway pretty close to one another and I can keep fairly warm even in October when for some reason it seems warmer than it does in April. I was at the sixth game of the ALCS and the first two games of the 2013 WS and it wasn't that cold at all. Seems it takes a long time in Boston to warm up and then if we get lucky it stays warmer a little longer than you would expect. By next month I will check out the Red Sox schedule and start making plans, and on God, let's hope that we have a lot to cheer this coming season.

They recently dropped the spring games from 7pm games to 6pm games. Much needed change, IMO.

When you say Spring games, does that mean all the way to the middle of June? I'll tell you this Pal from some frozen experiences, 6pm games are not that much warmer than 7pm games in April or the beginning of May. If these games go into June that might be a welcome change. Have you any info how long these 6pm games go?
