Felix Doubront came in, faced 10 batters and allowed six runs, six hits and two walks. He got his only outs on a sacrifice fly and a forceout.

 

Doubront has complained about being moved to the bullpen after he went 2-4 with a 5.19 ERA in 10 starts. In seven relief appearances, he has allowed 11 earned runs in nine innings.

 

Yeah, how dare they take him out of the rotation when he's rocking a solid 5.19 ERA.

So basically he got traded for a bag of chips. Quite remarkable considering how he entered this season and it seemingly always was only about him taking the "next step" to become more than a #4/5 starter, which was supposed to be his floor. He totally bombed and looked like a d-bag to boot. Wonderful.

I think that Theo made a good move.

 

Doubront is cost controlled for a few years. If he can get his act together ( we have only seen this in a few small samples ), then the Cubs have a decent mid-rotation pitcher for a few years that he can trade off to another team for something of value. The buy in was low from what we can tell.

 

He should do somewhat better in the NL but if he doesn't, then he can still be moved for a bag of balls later or DFA'ed.

 

Felix is a known commodity to Theo so I doubt the Cubs have huge aspirations for the guy.

He pitched well for the Red Sox for long periods of time although, like a lot of other players, he's struggled this year. I hope a change of scenery does him some good, and we can wrap this up as a mutually beneficial trade.

Theo probably got a steal here. Doubront looked like s*** for a good part of this year, but had flashes of excellence. I think he'll be pretty good in the NL central honestly. The cubs need to fill the void Samardzija and Hammel left. This looks good for them.

He has been up and down over the last few seasons so its not just this season. The lefties they got at the trade deadline make him the Cubs' problem now.
