RIP Zim. I never forgave him for his stubborn spitefulness of benching Bill Lee down the stretch in 1978 as the team was physically falling apart. Yaz pleaded with him to pitch Lee against the Yankees. However, he was a member of the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers-- Brooklyn's only championsip team. Rest in Peace.

In lieu of pulleys, the casket will be thrown into the ground by Pedro Martinez.
Casual baseball fans will only remember Zimmer for that incident. I wonder if there are any memorable names from the '55 Dodgers still living? Newcomb? Edited by St. Louis Carter

This is definitely my most enduring memory of him. RIP Don.

After a quick search I found that several 1955 Dodgers of note are still with us: Newcombe, Lasorda, Koufax and Carl Erskin.

Even though Vin's not a player, he's still very alive and well.

Actually Zimmer's first full season with Brooklyn was in 1955 and he didn't do badly at all. He played mostly second base that season as Jim Gilliam shuffled between second and left field. Don hit 15 homers that season and was a pretty good clutch hitter. He got injured in ST in '56 and didn't get into action until May and was hitting 300 when he got badly beaned by Hal Jeffcoat of the Cubs. So serious it was that he missed the rest of the season. RIP.

Eddie Roebuck, Roger Craig to finish off that list Carter. All pitchers who are left. I don't know about utility IF-OF Frank Kellert. He might still be around. That I don't know.

Oh my! I thought Roger Craig died recently. Guess I got him confused with Musial. (I know, how could I?) I never heard of Kellert.
