I still wish he had made it in MLB and with the Red Sox. I am not sure I can remember anyone who could crush a ball quite like Wilt Mo Pena.

 

If you watch this video carefully (and it is not really clear), the ball hits way up there. He still has unbelievable power.

I had high hopes for Wily Mo. But hated losing Arroyo.

Wily Mo could crush a ball to heavenly heights but there were a few problems with the guy. He couldn't field to save his ass, he couldn't hit a curve ball with a paddle and he was one of the dumbest base runners in existence. Theo Epstein believed that pairing him with fellow Dominicans, Papi and Manny, would have a strong positive effect on him but it didn't work. After his first season in 2006 was marred by base running and fielding blunders Theo said at the end of the season the team needed a RF since they were not going to resign Trot Nixon. The hidden meaning was that Wily Mo wasn't the answer either. By summer of '07 Pena was off the Red Sox and soon out of baseball.
