I think they get an upper-echelon pitcher, but not two, and not necessarily either of them. It could be Masterson or Shields on a shorter term deal, or a trade for Lee if the Phillies decide to stop being f***ing idiots.

Masterson is a mid rotation arm, if he is only looking for $60M, signs him. But we need a leader of the staff. Lester is a keeper, a work horse, and reliable arm to give the ball to every 5th day. I still want a top arm to paired up with him in a series. It's hard to count on Buccholz, who know what he is day to day. Scherzer would be a fine arm to give this rotation a 1-2 punch.

The Red Sox need to lock Lester up.

 

My guess is that the Red Sox give Peavy a QO, and he accepts it, and that will be their other big pitching acquisition.
