We're seeing the two biggest concerns around over his last two starts. He was as good as he can be against Seattle, but was hurt by diminished stuff, worse luck than previous starts, and a smaller strike zone (on the inside corner to righties) than previous starts. So even when he is good, that's no guarantee that he will even pitch a decent game. Today he just sucks. Without even decent velocity he needs to command his fastball, and he just doesn't have it today.

Pitching was supposed to be the big strength for this team. Not only doesn't it seem like a strength anymore, but it's looking a lot like a weakness.

Beltran is a horrible defender

But we knew this when they signed him. He hasn't been a good defender for years, and he was coming off the worst defensive year of his career. And he was coming off, far and away, the lowest walk rate of his career. Yet they gave him 3 years and 45 million dollars. It's going to end up being another terrible contract.

That's why we Red Sox fans shouldn't despair

86 wins will probably win the division by 10 games. Well, maybe 5, but still.

CC had started to turn it around, that's why it's so frustrating. He needs to pitch backwards and he's too stubborn to do it. Against the sox, it seemed like he started every hitter off with a change or a slider. Today, he was just putting it on a tee with his fastball. He has to get right. As does Kuroda

It wasn't about pitch sequencing, today. He had no command of his fastball or changeup. That's what killed him.

Better pitch sequencing might have meant a longer stay on the mound, and maybe one or two less runs. Also, the D killed him as well. Your defense is as bad as the Sox' situational hitting.

I had no issue with his pitch sequencing/selection today, and I'm someone who focuses a ton on that stuff. When he threw his fastball it almost never went where he wanted it to go. When he threw his changeup it almost never went where he wanted it to go. With his diminished velocity/stuff, poor command is going to do him in every time.

And yeah, their defense is awful, but I don't think it hurt CC today. Myers shouldn't have had an inside the park home run, but the next few guys hit rockets off CC. Fallacy of the predetermined outcome and all that jazz, but there's at least a decent chance that Myers scores anyway even if he was held to a triple.

You're never as good as you look when you're playing well, and you're never as bad as you look when you're playing poorly. With that being said, part of me thinks that the Yanks are playing so poorly because of a few serious flaws that will be prevalent all year.

On a more positive note, coming off a decent start against Seattle it was nice to see Kuroda look like himself tonight against a good offense.

CC is a cooked goose. 10 bombs already allow. Offense is suppose to be down in baseball, but CC is there to inflate it.
CC's ERA has inflated as his belly has deflated.

believe it or not, his ERA dropped today because 3 of the runs were unearned. He was lucky to escape the 6th without being painted after leaving a sacks packed mess for Betances. Good thing Betances has been a nightmare for opposing hitters and K'd both hitters he faced
