Is anyone getting advertisements at the top of the page? Is this just some program that snuck onto my computer, or is it Talksox? I have an ad up there for "Meet Sexy Korean Women". Now, I'm totally okay with sexy Korean women, but, um, what's going on?

Before I caved and got adblock there was all kinds of s*** up there. Ads for penis enlargment showed up regularly.

I am assuming it is targeted advertising, which I really don't like. I was reading the wikipedia page on Korean baseball players a while ago, and then that popped up, and I was reading a thread on another message board where a user was complaining about a knee injury, and now there is a knee pain relief ad up there. But why did it start today?

There was a big banner up when we transitioned to the new site, basically saying that if you aren't logged in, you get advertisements. If you are logged in, I have no idea why you're getting them.

There have always been ads on Talksox to help me pay for the site. There was a google ad on the top of the page on the old pre-hacked version and I finally got around to replacing it (its in a slightly different location) yesterday.

 

They're placed there by me but the content is served by Google so they are tailored to each person. There's a big banner at the top for guests and I hope that the new small text ad at the top for everyone isn't too intrusive.

Targeting ads is dumb when it's like this: I window shop hotels a lot. Most of the time, I decide not to book some place. So now every time I go to Yahoo, I get ads for hotels I have no intention staying at. I know I can just delete cookies, but it's annoying.

I am getting ads for Mariano Rivera jerseys and mail-order Chinese brides. It is obviously just grabbing proper nouns from pages I am visiting with no context.
