Like I said earlier, I can't argue the ultra-conservative rehab schedule especially in his case....but the extra 5 weeks tossed into it via dicking around when he was having problems really roasts my ass. Sox are as responsible for that as buch is IMO.

Well the rule of thumb if you are playing it safe is once you get to the point where you actually must rebuild arm strength to come back, you take one day of recovery for every day out. That is why the extra time they spend dicking around fries me so much. Every day they screwed around with that actually cost them two days and at some point they crossed a line where he was for all intents and purposes, starting from scratch to rebuild his arm strength. To me, that was totally ridiculous in light of being in a pennant race.

 

Every time I would see..."well it really does not matter cause we are still in first" it was like chalk across a blackboard for me. I don't even know what the f*** it means! Does it mean the Sox never really felt like Buch's early season performance was sustainable so ...f*** it? Does it mean, they didn't feel like they were in a pennant race so ...f*** it? I just don't know how that was justified and I guess we will never know what the team thought or thinks about sort of a casual approach to getting buch back on the mound.

The loss column is what ML players look at because once you are either tied in the loss column with the opponent having games in hand or behind in the loss column with the other team having games in hand, you no longer control your own destiny. We can talk about the chances of someone winning four straight all we want to. Games in hand for the Rays amount to pressure on the Sox because they no longer control their own destiny.

 

Not real sure this team responds well to pressure. We have already seen guys like Pedey and even Ortiz trying to do too much to pick up the offensive slack and that has not really worked to their benefit either.

 

I guess we will see Buch when we see him and the pitchers we have are going to pitch the way they are going to pitch. But as I said earlier, IMO, this team needs an offensive boost from somewhere because they have not battered down the walls all season. That is not how they score runs. However they don't really have the same offensive profile with the players they are putting on the field now. They are a tweener now. Not enough raw power to play that game...not enough speed and dynamic capability to play that game. At this point I would take my chances with some new faces and see if I could rekindle the dynamic offensive profile they had earlier this year.

 

I still believe they should be patient at the plate, get the starter out and work on the pen. However they are doing close to nothing early in ballgames now.

You're still ignoring the fact that Tampa Bay could have a higher winning percentage the rest of the way, and still lose the division. They have longer odds than the Red Sox right now.

True, but if dempster performs well in his next 4 or so starts before butch return, and dubront continues to slide, what then? We will just have to wait and see.
