Game time: 7:10 p.m.

TV/Radio: NESN / WEEI.

Red Sox vs. Moore: Pedroia 2-11, Ortiz 5-10, Gomes 2-9, Napoli 0-7, Drew 2-5, Ellsbury 0-2, Nava 0-3, Victorino 0-3, Lavarnway 0-2, Salty 0-1.

Rays vs. Workman: No history.

Stat of the Day: The Sox are 33-17 at home. They won 34 games at home all last season.

Notes: It's a showdown series as the first-place Sox leads the second-place Rays by 1.5 games in the East. The Sox have the second-best record in baseball and the Rays the fourth. ... The Rays have won five straight, 13 of 14 and 17 of 19. Those 17 wins came against the Astros (5), Twins (4), White Sox (3), Blue Jays (3) and Tigers (2). Of those five teams, only the Tigers have a winning record. ... Workman, a 24-year-old rookie, is starting his first game at Fenway. He made his first career start on July 14 in Oakland and took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before giving up a single and a home run. ... The Sox are 9-3 against the Ray this season, outscoring them 51-38. ... Moore is 1-2, 5.48 in four career appearances against the Sox. He faced them on May 14 and allowed three runs on three hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out eight. ... The Rays probably won't have closer Fernando Rodney. He pitched on Saturday and Sunday, throwing 56 pitches. ... The Sox have won 10 of their last 12 games at Fenway. ...The Sox are 8-1 in their last nine starts against lefthanders. ... The Sox are 25-16 against the AL East. ... The Sox are 19-1 when they score first at Fenway and 42-9 overall when they score first. That's the best percentage in the majors.

Hope Workman has command of his curve tonight. He pitched well the last time out but really could not use the curve. He can be real fun to watch when he has that thing working...not to mention being that much harder to hit.

Workman looked a little like this his first outing. Got away without using many curves last time but it does seem like he really needs that pitch to make his FB effective. Rays tagging the FB so far.

The other thing I noticed about Workman's curve last time out is that since he does not have a rep in the Majors yet, the ump was giving up on his curve. He threw more curve ball strikes than he got credit for last time out.

I think one of the toughest things for a young pitchers is getting stuck pitching out of the stretch almost from the first batter. It is not easy for any starting pitcher to pitch from the stretch that early on but that much tougher on a young guy. Wish he could have just gotten into a nice groove instead.

Hopefully he will. The BP is taxed.

Noticed the Braun suspension came down today. Braun hoped the fans, teammates etc could "forgive him" as he knows he has made some mistakes. Wonder if he will ask the test handler that he cut to shreds for his forgiveness.

I'll keep beating this drum: Napoli is about to go on a tear.

I hope so. Afraid he's more like the roller coaster type. Like him a lot regardless.

Braun's a douche. I'm glad he finally got caught and admitted to cheating so Brewers fans would stop acting like he was a victim.

The only victim was the guy who Braun through under the bus. The guy who gave Braun the first drug test.

That's the guy I was talkin' about Native. I never found out for sure but I assumed at the time that the test handler really took it on the chin, like lost the job etc...maybe not.
