They better make up for their s***** ass display of baseball vs the Twins at home. Not only win the series, but kick their ass at least one game.

This!

The sox have been in a slump the last couple weeks but the series against Minnesota really blew my mind with how poor we played. We have had a couple solid games now and we have some momentum, hopefully it keeps up tonight.

Ellsbury CF, Nava RF, Pedroia 2B, Ortiz DH, Middlebrooks 3B, Drew SS, Gomes LF, Carp 1B, Saltalamacchia C, Buchholz SP.

Victorino out with back injury.

Yeah it's a good idea to give Napoli a day off.

I agree, and if we lose to a pitcher with an ERA of 7.15, WHIP of 1.95, BAA of .379, with Buchholz pitching, even with Napoli off then we lose at life. He went 5 innings giving up 9 hits and 3 ER when he faced us on May 6th.

I wasn't really liking the fact that Gomes was in today against a RHP. I guess this is a chance that he can prove to Farrell if he should be given more opportunities to start against righties. We really don't have a choice at this point. Victorino out with the back injury, so Nava has to fill-in there. Carp has to man first because Napoli is getting the night off. At least we are facing Worley, who if we don't light up this time around, I am going to be pretty upset.

We could really use a spark from both Gomes and Carp. This is a must win tonight. Tomorrow is going to be tough against Diamond, but it is still a winnable ball game. I think it is time to have strong bounce back starts from Dempster and Lackey. A sweep this series would be an amazing, but eyeing two out of three is what we need to do at the bare minimum to keep rolling and keep heading in the right direction.

I agree, just focus on winning series at this point. Sweeps are nice, but we just need wins. And of course some help from the teams facing the other AL East teams.

That is true. The Jays and Yankees are playing. Kuroda is on the mound for NY. Buehrle is going for the Jays. The good thing for Toronto is that Buehrle only gave up 1 run in 7 innings against us in his last start. As much as I dislike Toronto, I hate the Yankees more, so a big game from Buehrle winning against Kuroda would be awesome. As long as we get the W tonight as well. That would put us in a tie for 1st.

From there just gotta take it one game at a time.

According to a recent statistic, teams that score more runs than their opponents win 100% of the time.

How much tax dollars wasted went into that research?

I don't know if the lineup for tonight has been posted up somewhere but I have little doubt that Naps is swinging a tired bat. At least it has looked so much like it lately to me that I have been willing to post it up in these pages. I sort of did not let that thought leak in initially cause I figured....well he is not catching. However he is still being asked to play a heck of lot more than he has in recent years. I suspect, based on what we are seeing that Naps is going to need regular breaks in the schedule.

Unfortunate that it has to come when Vic is nursing his back. However you could just see from the strain he was under making those two playa in the outfield plus the slide for the ball he did not get to in foul ground that last night's game was just eating him up out there. Funny how the game just sort of finds a guy and forces him to make plays that expose his injury. That's baseball.

I so want Ells off the top of this lineup. It is killing me.

It's almost to the point where you gotta wonder if Ellsbury or Boras caught Farrell cheating on his wife.
They all cheat on their wives. He must have something else on him.

I guess Farrell can make the excuse tonight that he already has made a bunch of changes around Vic's back and Naps needing a blow. But what does Ells do that you want from the guy leading off? Oh pretty close to nothing.

He does not get on and he does not do anything positive if the bottom of the order generates a little offense and gets on ahead of him. Sorry, even with the other changes I would have dropped him in the order tonight.

So there ya' go Ells. Now I have gone and done it. Go out there tonight and make me eat my words.

Seriously though, if Farrell is not going to drop Ells after the stinkers he has put up lately...when? Is it going to be..... never? I have posted here that I suspect this is one of those things that Farrell is going to be overly stubborn about and I fear that is what we are facing.

The girl he cheated on his wife with must have been really ugly then.
or possibly she was someone else's wife. Crazy s*** happens. Eck's wife left him for his room ate and best friend -- the Guardians CFer Rick Manning. . Ironically, he was know more for his glove than his stick type.

Lets just hope that whatever WMB had last night, he brings it with him tonight. Tonight he has to bat behind Ortiz. Hopefully he poses enough of a threat that Ortiz actually gets something to hit. Pitchers have been pitching around Ortiz to get to Naps for a couple of weeks now.

Seeing several replays of the WMB hit off of Rodney last night, I am convinced now that not only did Rodney get that up in the zone too much but that WMB was sitting on the change. It is easy sitting on my couch at home to say, I know the change is coming. But if you sit change and get FB, it is pretty embarrassing. WMB may not have even gotten the bat off his shoulder in time to be out if Rodney came with the FB again. But I often contend that the change can be the most dangerous pitch in baseball cause if you are up at all with the change and especially if the guy is sitting on it, it becomes a very very easy pitch to hit.

Gotta' really credit WMB for having the guts to sit change and then execute when Rodney got it up in the zone. Really rare to be sitting on a secondary pitch but Will hit that too pure to be otherwise. Man has he learned to turn his hips in the swing.

Ells with his usual start. Not sure about Ells though. Don't think he is having the same problem that Naps is having as Ells has not hit for what seems like a decade.
