Kershaw sets mark

I don't know if everyone really understands how good this kid has been. He has the lowest career ERA for a starter with at least 1000IP in the live ball era

I didn't know that, actually. Very impressive. When you say "sets mark", did you mean that he just reached 1000IP or that his ERA just dipped below the former first-place name?

On another note, I guess it shows how impressive it is that Mariano Rivera has about 200 more IP than Kershaw and an ERA of 2.20 (Kershaw's is 2.70) when one pitches in the AL East and the other pitches in the NL West.

Kershaw is a starter though. There's a huge difference between starting and relievers when it comes to ERA expectancy. Not to take anything away from the Lightning Master, but it's an apples to oranges comparison.

Normally I'd say "shut up you stupid biased Yankee fan" to something like that but there's a legit point to be made there.

 

Granted, I think it's really difficult to compare starters to relievers, especially across different eras. (Mariano vs. the many HOF pitchers before him)

 

The sad part is I'm less than a month younger than Kershaw. He's making millions of dollars as one of the greatest starting pitchers in the game, and I'm sitting my fat ass on my bed on a random message board talking about how great he is.

I totally agree, I just brought up Mariano's numbers because I don't think it's common for many relievers to go over 1000 career innings (as a reliever), especially with the numbers he's had.
