No one clamored for Dempster to be signed, but when he was signed, only a handful of people went out of their way to give the guy that stupid nickname. So since he doesn't suck, maybe something more apropos should be used for his nickname, no?

What nickname? Dumpster fire?

My coworker was calling him the 5 years ago during fantasy baseball. No big deal.

What's with all the friggin' conspiracy theories? It's a baseball team, not f***in' area 51.

We should know by firsthand experience how fragile Bailey is.

People just need something to bitch about even when they're winning. Not sure why people need to be aware of the reason for every baseball decision. Too many armchair know it all gm's.

Dempster was extremely fortunate last night. He settled down nicely, but in the 2nd (3rd? I was watching on gameday while out to dinner with friends so couldn't pay a lot of attention) when he had the bases juiced and a 2-0 count on Encarnacion, and he chased a 2-0 slider that was a ball and hit into a DP. That's about as fortunate as you can get.

I'll take it, though!

His name just lends itself to that nickname. Sorry if it offends you. It's like your posts lend themselves to the nickname "jackass" for you.

When he was with the Cubs, hitters would layoff those pitches and he would run up some very high pitch counts. I think that he may have benefitted from the change of leagues. Hitters are not familiar with him and most of his swings and misses come on pitches out of the zone.

This is ironically delicious, seeing how you're always complaining like a little bitch about "personal attacks". I made the comment that the nickname is dumb and Dempster's been good, and you respond with this kind of attack.

Who's the jackass?

Interesting take. And if it's true it's funny because the line from so many internet experts was that he was ok in the nl but could not pitch in the al.

Both of you? :)

Haha nah, but you're both my jackasses and I like you both. Hell I honestly think the majority of us (myself included) can be reasonably called "jackasses" from time to time. It's probably a love/hate relationship at this point.

A very successful series of movies carried that name. WTF is "delicious irony" anyway. Such a ridiculous phrase. If UN wants something delicious, he can eat me. LOL!

I was definitely skeptical that his stuff would translate to the AL, especially after seeing him pitch for the Rangers last season. I am not at all saying that he was bad in the NL. What I am saying is that he used to run some high pitch counts because hitters were familiar with him. He was still successful. I didn't anticipate that he might benefit from a move to the AL. A big part of Dempster's game is deception. The hitters will catch up to him as the season goes on. I will be very happy if he is as good as he was in the NL. I don't expect this high level of success all season long.

What the hell....is there a sale somewhere on balky biceps? That is the announcement on Bailey.
It is becoming the injury du jour. It changes from season to season.

I'm pretty sure when I was creeping my friend's mom's facebook I got a balky bicep but I can't get out of work for that.
I think you could have gotten a sick day if you had a doctors note.
