Yup, and it cost him everything.

...and to me, it was all about the money.

He knew he would never make top dollar as a middle reliever.

He knew he didn't have the mentality to cash in as a closer.

He sacrificed it all with the hope of succeeding and cashing in huge as a front line SP.....little did he know that he would have probably made the most possible money just staying in the role that brought him success.

I agree with everything about this.

When is Hanrahan coming back? Bailey can't pitch 4 days in a row. They can use him right now.

This. Yes, the Sox have a dominant bullpen, but they still need more strong arms. It also seems like every game they are playing in is a close game where they need to use their big 3 of Tazawa, Uehara, and Bailey at least once throughout every game. With Uehara's injury history and current age, he is bound to get tired or injured throughout this year at some point. It's very important for Hanrahan to come back strong. Otherwise, our bullpen might be in trouble if one guy goes down.

Also, Morales and Breslow. They only have one left-handed option right now, and that option has a stupid beard and can't throw strikes.

Gorgeous locks of hair though.

It is becoming clear that Miller is a heart attack in the making every time he steps on the mound. He can't control his pitches, seldom could, and he has had years to sharpen his skills. My guess is that he is still with us because, 1--Morales and Breslow are injured as we have no other lefty options in the pen, or, 2--he has a guardian angel in the front office. When those two lefties return I fully expect the Red Sox to finally realize what a lot of us here know---that Miller is a sunk cost who should ply his trade in some NL city.

A lot of people think they should have kept Hill and not Miller. Hill is pitching well in Cleveland. But Hill can't stay off the DL--at least he couldn't in Boston. And the FO is worried the Yankees will grab Miller if they release him, and turn him into Randy Johnson. Morales and Breslow down is a real problem. They have 3 BP guys down.

Then he has been off every outing this season. How much more leeway can he get?

Enough to make it to when one of the other guys is healthy I would guess.
