Cecchini 2-4 HR & 2B

He's putting on some bulk and the power is being on display. Scouts have him as our best pure hitter in the system.

Not to mention the Carolina league really suppresses power, so the fact that he is hitting bombs there is a bigger deal than other leagues.

I still think he gets packaged in a deal for a big stick. Still wouldn't surprise me if the Sox put together a package for Stanton.

Cecchini is having a Bradley esque season in A+.

He is hitting LHP this year, .375/.444/.594

When did Bradley got promoted last season, late May?

I believe so, he had 230 AB when he was promoted. He was also a college player and Cecchini is in his 3rd season out of HS so it'll be interesting to see if that plays any role in an early promotion or not.

Nice outings again from RDLR and Barnes:

RDLR (AAA): 4.0 IP, 1 hit, 0 ER, 2 BB, 7 K

That's 4 straight scoreless outings and the numbers look like: 14.0 IP, 8 hits, 0 ER, 4 BB, 19 K

Barnes (AA): 5.0 IP, 3 hits, 1 ER, 3 BB, 7 K

Last 3 starts: 17.0 IP, 11 hits, 2 ER, 6 BB, 21 K

Bogaerts (AA): 1.036 OPS in May thus far, .304/.386/.464/.850 overall

No doubt he could be a weapon in the bullpen now but disagree that he has bullpen written on him. They are limiting his pitch counts to 70 pitches but he could probably be going 6 innings if he was on a normal pitch count. Thus far, hitters aren't hitting him even after seeing him more than once.

If he can get his slider to be an average pitch then he's definitely a starter. Already has two plus pitches (FB and changeup).

They are going to start stretching him out this weak. He has been limited to 50 pitches up to this point.

His last two starts have been 70 pitches, I imagine that will also continue to rise in the coming months.

Also another great start for Ranuado (AA): 6.0 IP, 3 hits, 0 ER, 3 BB, 5 K

39.0 IP, 23 hits, 10 BB, 41 K, 1.38 ERA on the season

Cecchini is just absolutely dominating right now.

2/3 with a 2B and a HR yesterday. It's really just not fair.

His line this year: .371/.476/.675, 5 HR (previous career high was 4), 12 2B, 4 3B, 11 SB 20:17 BB:K. That's all in 32 games.

De La Rosa hasn't allowed a run in his last 18 innings of work to lower his ERA 10 points. His line on the year is now:

24.2 IP, 3.65 ERA, 1.216 WHIP, 5.8 H/9, 5.1 BB/9, 10.6 K/9

Hopefully, between him, Webster (and maybe Ranaudo) we'll have some quality rotation depth in the second half.

Christian Vazquez is showing some interesting ability in Portland.

Only a .767 OPS but a .386 OBP and 48% CS.

Like to see a bit more power, obviously, but a catcher who can work the count and has That Arm is eventually going to be in the big leagues.

Considering how Salty has been behind the plate, if Vazquez's defense is that good I don't care if he hits like Iglesias. I think he'd save us more runs than his bat would cost us. Do you know what his "receiving skills" are like, ie framing, comfort with pitchers, ie things Varitek was known for?

If you promised me a .700 OPS from Vaz with a .345 OBP, I would sign up instantly. His defense is nothing short of mind boggling. 1.8-1.9 pop time consistently?? Sometimes in the 1.7's?!? Yes, pls.

No, but he's a very young catcher, so if I had to guess, I'd speculate that he was probably on the raw side with those, and would need the mentorship of an experienced catcher to help him get there from here.

I would also speculate that since these are issues that a hardworking catcher can learn, and Vazquez seems to be a hardworking kid, it will be a good bet that he eventually gets there.

Or nice young arms for next year and beyond.

Position Prospect of the Day: Christian Vazquez, C, Red Sox (Double-A Portland): 4-4, 2 2B, 3B, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB; changed swing mechanics to shorten up; making consistent loud contact; line-drive stroke; plus defensive profile; most scouts I talk to believe he has the ability to play every day; .375/.444/.625 with 3 2B, 3B, and HR in last 32 at-bats.

He'll be called up within the next couple of days. Once Aceves pitches, he'll be sent down and Bradley will replace him.

Yup. I think we've been on the same page on this all along
