I'd bring up Alex Wilson and see if Aceves can fill in for a few starts. Maybe he pitches better since he'd rather start anyway?

Well Pal if you were calling this like I think you were hinting you hit a homer. You can't do much with only one hit and Happ was good enough to get a good five innings plus to stop us cold. Without trying to raise anyone's hackles it looks like Aceves got steamcleaned again, but since we are pretty much out of this game he could get a mulligan on his less than stellar performance. We'll have to hit better tomorrow for Jon to win the rubber game.

I was kind of kidding about it being a pitcher's duel, but the score ended up 0-2 for the two pitchers. Crazy:lol:

I was always on team Lackey myself. I'm glad he's gonna be okay. That arm injury looked like a killer for a second there.

I'm almost scared to watch the highlights. With how bad it sounds I can't believe he is ok....

Strain covers a lotta' ground when announced this soon after the injury...how severe...who knows...they don't even know at this point.

Hopefully it is really mild and something he can come back from quickly. We all know how the Sox handle these early injury announcements though...they are designed to keep people buying tickets.

"Ortiz will be back in a week or two" etc etc.

If a Sox player dropped dead of a heart attack on the field, the announcement would be "suffered a case of indigestion....back after an off day".

If they are smart they are working on figuring out a Plan C.

He seems to be the type that would get killed in the first inning or so then settle down i think.

It sounds like the Rockies are going to hang Aaron Harang out there to see if any teams are interested. Might be worth a look.

No thanks...

lol Napoli. you f***ing suck! even if 5 games is no way to measure a player.

That ball would have been gone in a lot of parks though.

What a f***ing let down of a game. Abused by Happ.

Lester/Dickey tomorrow. Hopefully Dickey does not make them look like Looney Tunes baseball taking all three swings at one pitch before it gets to home plate.

Well, i'm honestly okay with today's results. Sure, we lost but we seem to have dodged a bullet with Lackey's injury and winning last night gives us a shot at taking the series tomorrow against Dickey. And if we don't, 3-3 heading home is still eons better than how we started last year.

Lackey with 8 Ks 5H in 4.2 IP? That's really not too bad. Would have liked to see him able to go further. We might have had a chance in this game then.

All we can do is give the team a mulligan for today's game and get them tomorrow. Lackey looked as if he was really hurting but then we get the news that it's not that bad. Pardon me if I'm skeptical knowing the reputation of our medical staff, but this time I will take their word for it because I want to see John Lackey come back strong and pitch well for us.

Face it, you can't do too much with only two hits, especially when Aceves gives up one of his now patented three run homers with that meatball pitch of his. Let's get them tomorrow guys and gals and put this one in our rear view mirror.

Yeah, they're a lot better this year than last the first 5 games. Thanks largely to the kids and Lester/Buchholz. But they could deflate if they start changing lineups sacrificing speed and defense. The pitching needs a defensive lineup. Those RHd batters have done dork so far in the middle of the lineup. Maybe excepting Gomes. They will have to hit a LOT better at Fenway next week to beat the Orioles and TB.

Lackey got some bad luck again. Pitching well, and his bicep cramped up. Hope it isn't related to his elbow.Maybe not. That kid Webster is going to need a spot soon in the rotation. The FO continues to overrate starters on this team. They still need a solid #3 behind Lester/Buchholz if they are going to go anywhere. Doubront, Lackey and Dempster have the words "upgrade me to make the playoffs" written on their foreheads.

It's oddly reminiscent of the Middlebrooks situation, no? When he check swing and looked like he busted his wrist again, then it was just scar tissue.

Sounds like this maybe have just been a cramp, which is ideal. His strength tests came back fine, and it sounds like his symptoms had resolved by the end of the game.

Like BTR, I'm ok with the loss mainly because there was a bigger picture in this game - Lackeys health, and I'd gladly trade 1 loss for him being ok.

On a side note, the general rule of thumb is to go .500 on the road and make your money at home. With Gomes, Nap, Ells, Pedey, Drew, Salty, etc, this team should be built for a lot of home victories. Hope we win tomorrow, but coming home .500 is fine with me, especially without Ortiz in the lineup.

If Ortiz gets back in the 3rd week of April, this team is going to be fine. Nap certainly needs to find his stroke, though.

Lackey is on the way back for an MRI. I suspect whatever trauma there was will be down in intensity by the time he gets the MRI. So the information they get off it should be good. That should tell the Sox a good deal about when they can get Lackey back.

Dismiss what you just said? No way Sox Sport, but I think we have to look at this a little deeper than that. Our weak hitting performance today could be just a one game passing fancy or it could be the potential of a serious problem. Frankly, I don't know, and I don't think Farrell knows at this early juncture. Certainly we need a strong defense, but right now we have two pitchers who look like they can be the bellcows of the pitching staff. The other three? Well, I would think when they pitch we will need some lusty hitting to help them out. You're spot on with needed a solid #3 starter. To me there's no doubt of that and one of our three other starters are going to have to step up, either that, a trade, or a promotion of Webster if he's ready.

Keep in mind that Napoli, Middlebrooks and even Pedroia haven't really caught fire yet, and we still have the catching to sort out. Getting back to Fenway Park might be an elixir for them, but to me the key is getting there 4-2 instead of 3-3. For that to happen we need a good game from everyone tomorrow. Within the next dozen games we'll get a much better read on our team and its chances.

If the tests came back fine that's a big relief for us because we cannot afford a major injury to our rotation, especially so early in the going. Still, I would hope they would run more tests to see if there aren't some booby traps in his shoulder, wrist, forearm or wherever he felt some strain. I also wish you hadn't mentioned Middlebrook's scare in ST. When I heard that I nearly barfed on the floor. Somehow, someway, we have to bypass the big injury bug for once in several seasons, but, yes, the Lackey thing this afternoon did remind me of what happened to Will last month.

Some of us can get a little cynical at times SFF but your upbeat candor is refreshing. Keep it up, and let's be sure we leave Toronto tomorrow with a 4-2 record heading home.
