The Yankees have a 10am EDT press conference scheduled Saturday at which Rivera is set to announce that he'll retire following the 2013 season, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports (Twitter links).

Yankees closer Mariano Rivera is looking to come back strong in 2013 after missing the bulk of last season. This upcoming season could very well be the 43-year-old's final campaign and it's an open secret that if he intends to retire, an announcement figures to be around the corner and could be as soon as Saturday, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.com (on Twitter).

Most of us probably had a decent feeling this would be his last season. Still weird to actually consider this is probably his last hurah. Dude has been a pain in the ass of Sox fans for well decades now. Still. I have the utmost respect for him. He's always been a great competitor and a class act.

Agree! Won't miss seeing him in in the 9th.

My favorite class moment from Mo was tipping his hat and smiling at the ovation he got at Fenway in April 2005 at the ring ceremony! :D

He has been such a pain in the ass for so long too Red Sox fans, it's not gonna be the same without him out their closing the show. Not that that's a bad thing.

Its always a bad sign when players announce retirement in advance. They usually end up getting hurt and give up. I wonder if he will get the farewell tour treatment like Chipper. Maybe an honorary bullpen band spoon from the Sox?

He should def get the same treatment

Also after he retires #42 is officially retired in full around MLB.

He has the lowest career ERA of any pitcher with 1000 or more IP in the live ball era by 0.30. He's the best reliever of all time. He's the best Yankee pitcher of all time. He's the best playoff pitcher of all time. And there is an argument to be made about one of the best pitchers of all time. He's irreplaceable and we will miss him.

Nail on the head. Dude has been a beast his whole career.

I'll enjoy watching him in highlight reels much more than I'd enjoy watching him live.

I never watch highlights of Yankee wins.

Where's your sense of humor? With the moves we've made in the offseason, I'm still hoping John Farrell's watch comes through for us...

 And on a side note, why is a manager wearing a wristwatch? Does he have an appointment that he has to make?

Gotta use something to time Buch's time between pitches.

Thank God he's addressing the tempo of these pitchers. At worst we have a horrible team, but we only have to sit through 3 hour games instead of 3.5-4 hour.

Mariano's cutter is the greatest signature pitch of all time, better than Nolan Ryan's fastball, Roger Clemen's splitter, Sandy Koufax's curveball and Pedro Martinez's changeup.

Hard to argue that, especially since it's the only one he used for his whole career.

Jeff Passan, I didn't know you posted here. I read your article on yahoo this morning.;)

He has a history of plagiarizing other people's work.

I didn't plagiarize s***, in school they had us read s*** all the time and write essay's about it in our own words, which is what I did here.

"His cutter was superior to Nolan Ryan's fastball, Sandy Koufax's curveball, Steve Carlton's slider, Roger Clemens' splitter, Pedro Martinez's changeup and every other pitch."

was the original quote, clearly different from what I wrote.

Lol, you really going to try and fool me? You don't remember that time you got so much s*** for stealing work from another website? What made it so funny is that you tried and lied. Don't make me bump that thread boy, sit down.

You essentially took his point, and changed the pitches around. Definitely plagiarism--if you're still in school or an academic setting, I seriously recommend reading up on how to paraphrase.

That being said, nobody gives a f*** here, and I was just joking around. Absolutely no offense meant whatsoever.

Funny you mention that Divinity, because i have a software i use to identify plagiarism in papers that says otherwise. In fact, just using google clearly shows you were blatantly copying Passan.

I know you were, and I had no problem with that. My comment was directed at RedSoxFan4Life which is why I quoted him.

Lets not embarass him again. He already lost major points when he said the Yankees coming back from beating the Rangers would be "the greatest comeback in ALCS history"

So I had my share of ignorant comments in the past, sue me. I've matured quite a bit, I'm not as young and naive as I used to be. Don't try to act like you haven't had your share ether. You lost major points when you said you would buy everyone MLB TV if the Red Sox missed the playoffs in 2011.
