Finally! The news, rumors and signings should be flying in for the next couple days! Fun time for sure, and to kick it all off....

TB has signed James Loney

No, I would not give anything of note for a 38 year old knuckler. If any fan base understands the ebb and flow of a knuckler, the Red Sox do. No way is it smart to buy a Knuckler at his peak value. I think the mets are going to be overall disappointed in the offers that come along.

The Mets have been underwhelmed by the offers they've received for R.A. Dickey so far, tweets Andy Martino of the New York Daily News. Martino adds in a second tweet that the Mets genuinely don't seem to know whether they'll trade Dickey or extend him.

Mets fans were delusional thinking they would get some top prospects for him. No one is giving anything of note for an old knuckler. I think they are stuck with him. it's the catch 22 with a knuckleball pitch. He can have a great season and win a Cy Young, but you can't sell him as a Cy Young award #1 SP. No GM is buying that.

The Rangers are close to a two-year deal with reliever Joakim Soria, tweet Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. The contract is thought to be worth $8-9MM, tweets Danny Knobler of CBS Sports. The longtime Royals closer had Tommy John surgery in April, and the team declined his $8MM club option.

Good deal. He will miss part of this season, but with the 2nd year the team should have a replacement for Nathan.

Pagan gets 4/40

Victorino has multiple 3 year offers with a 4 rear offer in there

Yankees interested in Ross. At this rate whomever gets Ross will be luck if it's only for 3 years

The rumors about Hamiltion and the Rangers are pretty crazy. Half of the sources are saying that the Rangers want absolutely nothing to do with him and won't even meet him, and the other half say they are the favorites. It makes me wonder if they're trying to bring down his value so they can swoop in and re-sign him.

Could be. Right now I suspect everything and believe nothing.

Cubs' Sveum accidentally shot by Yount on hunt

December 5, 2012

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum says he’s OK after former teammate Robin Yount accidentally shot him in the right ear and back with pellets during a recent quail hunt in Arizona.

Sveum brushed off the bloody mishap Tuesday at the baseball winter meetings and said he didn’t need stitches.

‘‘You don’t get hit very often,’’ Sveum said. ‘‘It’s not that big a deal.’’

Sveum and Yount played together in Milwaukee and are hunting partners. Sveum said he was about 50 yards ahead of the Hall of Famer went the accident occurred.

‘‘The bird got up in front of him, and he lost track of where I was and pulled the trigger,’’ Sveum said. ‘‘I was just looking for birds myself. It was behind me, so I got drilled with pellets in the back and one stuck in the ear.’’

Sveum said he and Yount have fired near each other in the past.

‘‘Well, not that close,’’ he said.

Yount got the bird, plus some razzing from his friend. Sveum said he started calling him ‘‘Dick Cheney,’’ a reference to the former vice president who once accidentally shot a friend while hunting.end of story marker

While hunting accidents shouldn't be funny, I always do chuckle a little.
