Somebody go and wake up Ben.
I am really starting to think he is a procrastinator.

Before the offseason started people thought that it would be hard for the Sox to land 2 Starting pitchers. The Jays just landed 2. We should keep a tally of how many starting pitchers change teams before Ben gets one of them.

And Hunter really wanted to play in Detroit. It's not surprising he chose the Tigers situation over Boston's. He wants a ring, Boston can't offer that at this time.

It's incredible that the Yankee fan has the most rational view of the player signing. He wanted this, they offered this, he chose somewhere else. OK move on.

The usual suspects around here jump right into blaming the FO for being inactive, without any thought that Hunter might have actually liked Detroit and it's chances better :o

Just because the jersey says Red Sox, doesn't mean everyone wants/has to go play there.

2 years, $26 million... reasonable but I can understand why he'd rather play in Detroit. He's the kind of piece that could push a team towards WS champ, not a stopgap solution until the youngsters come up.

That is exactly a problem with parts of the fandom here......

I'm starting to think that his "master-plan" is go on cheap-mode.

This would be a mistake. If they don't make some sort of demonstrable moves toward improvement, people will not be filling Fenway and they will not watch the games causing ad revenue to plummet. People are not going to invest time or money in a team that is a last place team when they break camp. It would damage the value of the franchise.

True.... unless JH sales "high" now and let new investor/s put the money for the players they want...

Hell, signs tell me that JH is not interested in this team anymore and the sale is imminent.

We'll see.

I am interested in how things turn out for the Tigers now. They're already going to be basically at their 2012 salary with this signing, and Anibel Sanchez is still out there.

It also makes me wonder if Victor Martinez would be available-- having Cabrera/Fielder/ and a 37 year old Hunter probably won't make it easy for them to have a full time DH.

What concerns me isn't that Hunter is off the board, it is that the Red Sox have been sitting around while players come off the board. If there are particular players they want, maybe they should go out and get those particular players. They tried the patient approach last year, and ended up with Aaron Cook and Melancon.

Hunter hates Boston and thinks the fans are racist. He wasn't coming here no matter what.

Not saying you're wrong about the reason he didn't come here, but I'm pretty sure there's fans like that everywhere you go. If that's why he didn't come that'd be pretty stupid.

That's what Crawford thought as well..$142M later he was smiling inside.

Who gives a s***. HE DIDNT WANT TO PLAY HERE, regardless of what he said.

Everyone, please just face it.....this team will once again hover around third place, and there is nothing on the market that will really change it.

Is this a joke?

Nope, its actually true. Hunter thinks Boston and its fans are racist. He has actually been very public with those thoughts.

(The joke being that you said Boston fans were racist, and then made a connection to a taco restaurant as a must-have for it)

Two different things. He thinks Boston is racist. He likes Del Taco and there are none here.

Saying he likes Del Taco is racist? I f***ing love Del Taco...

I wanted Hunter in NY as well. I thought he was a good fit, but from the sounds of it, NY wants a 1 yr stopgap and Hunter needed 2 yrs. Ce la vie

The Yankees need to get younger, the last thing we need is another guy in his late 30's.
