Random thoughts on today's game:

1. Dice - K pitch a good game today, but its a no pressure game against the Royals and just say no Dice-K after September

2. Ross 2-4 and three RBIs today, I wish he was a little more reliable with the glove in RF, would LF be a better fit for him in 2013 and the Sox get a RF in off season

3. Ellsbury 2-4 with a homerun, it would be nice to see him be a little more consistent the rest of the season. If he is back in 2013 he will be counted on to produce. I don't expect 2012 numbers, but 20-85 -.300 range numbers.

Doesn't it feel just so odd and so completely abysmal to be out of it before September has even started? I mean it feels like FAILURE especially when you see video of these other teams still playing for a post season spot and the Red Sox are dead and gone. Really tough to take.

Are we about to go on a 29-5 tear to finish the season at 90 wins, and get the last playoff spot?

Sox have won 90 games the last two years. But missed the playoffs both years...

2WC now remember. 1 game playoff is stupid though.

Every starter in this Royals series had a quality start, with the exception of Cook. The only person who didn't pitch was Buchholz, so Sox have a chance at that run.

 Don't get too hopeful about this.

9 game road trip against Angels, A's and Mariners. They come back and play everyone in the East 6 times. Take 5 out of 6 from the Jays, and you got yourselves a good opportunity.

Alex Gordon turns to George Brett when he plays the Red Sox.

that is the same mistake we made when we signed Carl Crawford cuz we couldnt deal with his stolen bases against us.

They haven’t played well against these teams this year. That and the last time they went to Oakland and Seattle, Boston didn’t look too good. I’m not looking forward to this road trip.

The 2012 Red Sox will reward you loyalty and hope by immediately going on a 6 game losing streak.

I'm torn on Dice-K. Sometimes he infuriates me (most of the time), but then he shows these flashes of brilliance that make me love him. It's frustrating. I wouldn't mind if they resigned him for peanuts, but I suspect there will be a team out there willing to sign him for decent money, probably a team like the Pirates or Nationals who are just beginning to play good baseball. He'll end up with one of those two, Arizona, or Colorado.

Peter Gammons says he'll end up in the NL West. Just keep in mind that he was playing against the Royals. We'll see how he does against the Moneyballers.

The bottom line on the Red Sox is when they get good pitching, they almost always win.

They always seem to have enough hitting--no matter what the lineup mix, injuries etc.

he wont be a Red Sox come next week, IMO. They just put him on trade waivers and a fair amount of teams in the hunt have lost pitchers. I could see StL or Pittsburgh take a flyer on him
