What exactly did Pedro Ciriacco do to earn the promotion from lead off to ninth?

I know Podsednik is hitting well and all that but why mess with something that isn't broken (I am speaking in terms of the 9-1 line-up positions)

I would say I never hen-peck the line-up but I am doing it right now so that takes "never" off the table.

So RARELY do I scrutinize the line-up the manager puts out but I don't like this one at all whether they score 1 run or 15 tonight.

Ellsbury is not a #3 hitter

I guess Valentine is jammed up a little since Ortiz appeared to hurt himself running last night after one game back from the friggin' DL.

Still a glaring lack of power in the Sox line-up so that hasn't really changed.

Oh well

f*** it

It's gonna be interesting to watch this team for the rest of the year.

But that will pale in comparison to "watching" the off-season

Ortiz hurt himself last night? Apparently it was not healed. Will it ever be or is this a chronic painful injury on someone his age ?

Looks like the one year contract in the only way to go with him now,

Ortiz said he is having issues with his foot. If they were contending he would play through it but tonight there is no reason to risk it.

Cook apparently feels like he has to have a Beckett-like first inning. Doesn't want us to get lonely for that sort of thing.

This is not anything more than wondering out loud but you would have to think that all of these moves will result in a Sox youth movement even if only temporary. I wonder if that is a sign that the Sox may go with V as manager next year. Not at all sure what the manager market is going to look like in the near term. Doubt they want to go to the trouble of getting a short term guy in here.

Oh Tazawa was optioned back down to activate Ortiz.

Blah, it could've been interesting seeing him start, see if he can pull it out.

Really I think in Cooks case you just have to say he is what he is. It was always going to be a matter of whether a guy that is ALL secondary pitches can make a go in the AL East. Sometimes you just don't have a handle on what that really means until the guy is actually pitching out there.

I think the part of his game that did become obvious after awhile is that he can't pitch above the middle of the knee without getting hurt. So the upper knee cap is "up in the zone" for him. Pretty tough to think a guy can be that fine that he can keep the ball below middle of the knee all the time.

It really does seem to feel like a new era tonight.

At the very least, it will be refreshing to watch this team and truly have the inevitable disappointment night in and night out removed.

There are zero expectations for them the rest of this season. Get to see the kids come up and play their hearts out for their big league futures.

Maybe we'll get lucky and derail some of our divisional rivals road to the postseason.

some are whistling past the graveyard here. this is minor league. a shameful day. they will go 2-8 from here, if they are lucky. this is not rebuilding. this was a version of babe ruth meets tampa bay meets the mets
