Of course' date=' you only have control over your own games, but the reality is that we need 4 teams in front of us to lose other than the Yankees. That's hard to do when they are playing each other a lot.[/quote']

We do have two division rivals ahead of us in the WC so we hold a large part of our destiny in our hands. It isn't like we're completely reliant on everybody else to help us out.

I'm conflicted in regard to this because you certainly make a very good point.
It's one of the things that I don't like about these 2 wild cards. At the end of the season, it is going to be hard to figure out who we want to win the other games if we are still chasing multiple teams.

I see your point but take our division for instance, we could be in the second slot in a matter of a few days.

Plus, am I the only one who's somewhat irked by the idea that the second team could hypothetically be 10 games behind the first and still get the playoff?

Using the word noob automatically discredits everything you said.

But it's harder to stay in survival mode if you're operating under the impression that you have the possibility of reaching the division. We can agree to disagree here' date=' since in the end, they just need to win.[/quote']

Isn't the belief that you can still win the division more likely to inspire play to the point of domination, instead of less? Look at how so many teams have played games after being mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. Resigning yourself to "no way we win the division" could just end up making you play like you have no chance. I know that once I have clearly been beaten in a game of Scrabble (which happens rarely enough that I can recall most of the individual games) I just start putting down two and three letter words to try to speed the game along so I can go do something else. When it is a tight game that I still have a chance of winning, I play whatever the best word I have is and sometimes I end up coming from behind and winning.
