Crawford, Beckett, and Lackey will make $51M next year between them. There's no reason we shouldn't be able to flip them for young, serviceable players with some heart.

I complained all offseason....and the beginning of the year about how bad they were going to be.

They cared more about luxury tax and saving a couple bucks by dealing Marco Scutaro.

Yeah, cause Scutaro and a cheap reliever is the distance between Boston and the pennant.

It is almost unanimous now that change is needed. A month ago it was more split. But this recent run has brought almost every fan into the rebuild/sell mentality if they weren't there already. Heck, it is so obvious to some, that they are actually rooting for the team to lose this year so change will be more warranted by this dysfunctional organization.

Where did I say they had a chance at a pennant? Where did I complain about the bullpen?

I said they never had a shot.

Strawman. You aren't arguing with a newbie here bud, take a hike.

Its ok haha, its just a sport. I dont take it that seriously. I just couldn't understand how Sox fans could be so blind for so long.

Thats what apologists still want to believe. Im a grownup, I don't make excuses for a baseball team.

I'm not saying you said we could'be woni it all, so you can stop throwing around terms you studied on a philosophy course you once took.

What I'm saying is the front office is not to blame. The players suck, really badly. Nobody would pay for Crawford. If the FO didn't focus on Scutaro and spent some more bucks, would it really help? The team is full of high-paid less then replacement level players, CC, Dice, Jenks, Lackey etc'. Cherington isn't the brightest crayon in the pack but what he received was a sinking ship. It's easy to criticize but he couldn't have done anything really, the payroll is huge, the whole team is injured or in a slump. There isn't a man in the world who could've saved this season.

The *******s in the FO figured that they were a lock for the second wild card, so they went cheap. It blew up in their faces and they ruined baseball for Sox fans in 2012. After tonight, we will have a $174 million payroll and the 11th best record in the AL. Only the Royals, Twins and Seattle are worse. Welcome to sucking.

It really is the pitching isn't it?

It's not chicken and beer, it's not Tito's painkillers, it's not a questionable medical staff and conditioning/nutrition program. It's not bricks, coffee table books, and tweetyourseats. It's not injuries, high BABIPs, or letters from Liverpool. It's not bad umpiring, running into teams at the wrong time, skewed Pythagorean records, or a harsh media.

The pitching SUCKS! Period. How can it be so deceptive?

I'm not trying to start an argument. I missclicked a few times in the post and maybe made a few grammatical errors (English as a second language), but I believe you can get past this and understand what I tried to say.

I don't believe this team's state is the front offices fault. I don't believe V or McClure are scapegoats. I also don't feel I'm in a place to criticize the FO, when they signed CC I was very happy (Maybe you criticized the hell out of that deal, I don't know) and so were the rest of the nation. Even in the Lackey deal I thought they overpayed but I didn't expect this. Nobody the Beckster meltdown. s*** happens, but you can keep your fingers in your pocket.

Well, you do very well for a second language. I apologize.

It is the FO's fault, and I saw this coming a long time ago.

If someone would seriously take Crawford from us and give us a young, former AS with good power/speed AND hits from the right side, why the hell wouldn't we take it? Even if we had to take back an overpaid reliever.

No biggie, we are Sox fans, we live and die by this team. I remember the days of fighting with everyone I saw every time we played s***** but that was a long time ago. Like I always say, I love the idea that is the Boston Red Sox, and we have had some really fun years last decade and there will be more on the horizon. That being said, I feel absolutely NO connection to the team we are currently fielding or have fielded for a few years now. I have stated this to the point where I was threatened to be banned so I just kind of sit back now and wait for the other shoe to drop. I want us all to be able to run to our TV sets some time in the near future cause we are going to watch a team with heart like the idiots again.

The similarities to this year's Red Sox team and former Rangers teams is startling. All offense, zero pitching. And on the flip side, the similarities between the recent Rangers teams and past Red Sox teams. Strong offense to compliment a strong and deep pitching staff.

I wonder if it is actually possible to trade CC. So much talk about here makes you wonder but it just doesn't seem realistic whatsoever. Not sure why Miami would do it?

Well said. This organization has lost that connection they worked so hard to develop with a large majority of the fan base. Day to day, its not just that they lose, it's how they go about it. Long term, I'd say some fans have even lost faith in the organization's ability to improve in the near future due to their repeated failures to fix past issues.

Each offseason has presented a greater challenge and set of issues for this organization than the previous one. I imagine at this point that trend will continue. Hopefully, the organizations trend of failing to fix the issues will not continue.

Well said. I am only 24 years old, and have only been watching the Sox for about 8 years now. So maybe it's easier for me to forgive the team for a bad year as I haven't had to sit through many bad years. However last year was one of the worst. Being one of the best teams in MLB and folding the way we did. At least this year there will be no folding after having an amazing start. We have pretty much just sucked all year minus a couple decent stretches. As I have said before I don't think we are out of the hunt yet by a long shot, but at this point it doesn't matter. It seems any time we play a tough competitor like the Yanks or Rangers we get destroyed. I keep thinking this team is just as competitive as the Rangers and Yanks. But it's really sad when I have to come to the realization that we are simply just an average team at best this year :(

He has the worst contract in baseball right now. So no.

Speaking for myself, I am not mad at the team. I guess that the thousands of games watched that some of have logged through many years allows us to pick up the signs of a dying team earlier than other fans. We've seen this stuff many many times before. The odd thing about 2012 is that no matter how much we suck, we are still in the hunt for the second wild card. In any other season, the Sox would be clinically dead without hope, but this second wild card keeps us on life support and gives a glimmer of hope. I don't like this second wild card. Teams this bad should be dead.

I don't like it either 700. The first WC deserves a shot at the crown without being encumbered by this ridiculous play in game and the resulting impact to its pitching match ups for the division round. This second WC should just be going home and planning to do better next year. They had a good system. This one is stupid.

Baseball can be a funny sport sometimes though. All it takes is to make the playoffs and then anything can happen. Sox may be inconsistent as hell..... But when they are on they can give anyone a scare come playoffs. Its just a matter of getting there. Playoffs is a new season. Gives teams and players new life. I know I didnt expect Detroit to take out the Yanks last year and thats exactly what happened. Now im not saying the Sox would for sure do the same, however I like our chances more if we are in the playoffs lol.

Agree with both of you 100%. A one game play-in is a horrible piece of gimmickry. Selig is showing his true colors on this one. Anything to wring a few extra bucks out of the suckers, and screw the integrity of the game.
