Manny in his prime was better than Ortiz.

Better -yes but i still think with the game on the line Ortiz was a little better.

Watching manny and papi hit 3-4 was amazing....... I dare someone to name a duo better in the last 20? Years

Griffey and ARod, but they were only together what, 3-4 years? And ARod wasn't even close to his prime yet.

Imagine if those 2 could've gotten locked up long term.

Cy Young and Joe Wood had better years. Young had the 12 or 13 best single season era in baseball history. I'd still take Cy Young in his prime. The best pitcher I ever saw was Bob Gibson in 1967. Too bad he never played for boston.

I know you old guys don't like these newfangled stats :harhar:, but just look at the all time leaders in single season ERA+. While great, Bob Gibson's 1968 pales in comparison to Pedro's 2000.

2003-06 Ortiz and manny....333 hr 1004 RBI 292 doubles

96-99 Griffey and ARod... 352 HR, 1009 RBI, 273 2B. Very, very close numbers!

Ortiz and Manny probably get the nod due to the WS win

They are very close ( but Ortiz missed 35 gms in 2003 and manny missed 32 gms in 2006 ) plus normal "rest " days......not to discredit arod and Griffey ...just giving them a +1:thumbsup:

Griffey missed 22 in 96, ARod missed 16 in 96, 21 in 97, and 33 in 99. We can go back and forth on these 2 all day

Ortiz/Manny get the win by a mile in OPS+, but Griffey/ARod make up for it in defense. Compare their oWAR+dWAR at baseball-reference.com. Ortiz/Manny totaled 28.0 WAR over their 4 years while Griffey/ARod had 61.3

Checkmate.

Completely different eras...depending on when this hypothetical WS game would be played, Pedro's era might be more relevant than Young's or vis-versa. Do we really think Young would be rattling off 400 inning seasons in todays MLB?

That's one good reason to use ERA+. It takes into account different eras, ballpark factors, and a lot more things than traditional stats.

Yes. Spahn was pitching over 20 CP a year into his forties in the 1960s The different era is a cop out. Records are records

What happened with Ross over these last two games with the WS was more about the WS getting stubborn about how they planned on pitching Ross even though it was the way wrong idea about how to pitch to him. Did not learn their lesson the game before this one and paid for again tonight.

pedro's era can't come close to Young's

Everything was different when Cy Young played. The ball was wound a lot looser, the rules were different and the game was played inside the park. There were also differences with the mound. The mound was not only closer, but it was much higher.
