Seriously?

The guy busted his ass in the off-season and dropped 30 pounds to get in better shape and is tearing the cover off the ball in his mid 30's and his wishes for a multi-year contract are done because he came up lame rounding a base?

The guy has done more than enough to warrant a discussion about something more than a 1 year deal this offseason. I'm not saying we should lock him up for 3/4 years but a two year would be perfectly reasonable.

If Red Sox continue to have a hot offense without Ortiz than FO might take him out a little longer just to give ortiz extra time to heal. Maybe back after the Toronto series? Eat your veggies Ortiz!

It would have been interesting to have guys around Ortiz that can hit and get on base with AGon finding his power stroke. He has been getting pitched around a lot. He could do even more damage in this lineup.

No tear' date=' but he had some swelling. Achilles tendinitis is typically a 1-2 week thing but wont actually get fully better until the off season[/quote']

Jeez, a post that isn't smarmy, one-sided, or inane from a Yankee fan.

You're right, this won't be 100% until full rest in the off-season. Papi is playing "hurt" for the rest of the year and won't know when this will come up to bite him again.

Tape it tight, special shoe and ice after the game and he'll get through it.

Ortiz had something very similar last year in August. He actually had to wear a walking boot then as well.

Once he returned, he hit .339/.433/.545 for the remainder of the season.

I don't think its anything that's going to affect his performance, especially since he doesn't play defense.

Hes been a trooper in the past with injuries. Hes certainly no stranger to the occasional cortisone shot either. As long as its a strain and not a tear I think we will be alright

I thought tendonitis set in gradually, not suddenly from something like putting weight on his foot wrong or something?

Posted
Tendonitis does not always set in gradually. I know from experience that it could be rather sudden in cases where activity level is increased suddenly, such as after the All-Star break.

He'll be fine. He wouldn't be a professional athlete if he couldn't handle a little discomfort, which is all he'll be dealing with once he returns.

It can be from an acute injury. Tendonitis involves inflammation, and on the microscopic level, involves tearing.

one week baby, one f***in' week.

I hope he still does some upper body workouts & gets plenty of lean protein & vegetables (I'm paleo nutrition obsessed) to help the healing process (workouts just to keep in shape lol).

Ortiz can't avoid DL

News: Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine told radio station WEEI designated hitter David Ortiz has been placed on the disabled list with an Achilles injury and Mauro Gomez has been recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket to take his roster spot.

Analysis: This seems like a smart move by the Red Sox. Although an MRI showed no tear in Ortiz's Achilles, it's probably the best thing to let him rest and make sure he doesn't do any further damage. Hopefully, it will be a short stint on the DL, but Fantasy owners will lose Ortiz for a few weeks. The Red Sox will likely rotate a bunch of players into the DH spot while Ortiz is out.

Yaz used to play with both achilles and wrists taped tight when he had these injuries. Some of you get furious when I say this stuff, but is true. And except for the years they had Rice, pitchers were still most fearful of Yaz, injured or not.

Who gives a s*** what Yaz did?

Why should anyone give a s*** about how some guy 40 years ago dealt with a particular injury?
