What's wrong with Sweeney hitting 3rd? At least he hits a lot of doubles. That's something I think would be good to do behind Crawford and Ellsbury. Or even Pedro.

Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz does not have a tear or rupture in his Achilles' tendon and will take a few days off, but will not be placed on the disabled list, the Globe's Nick Cafardo reported.

"As of right now no DL," Cafardo tweeted.

Cafardo said earlier Tuesday that Red Sox management was "discussing the possibility" of a trip to the disabled list for Ortiz. But he also said the Red Sox waited until Ortiz arrived at Fenway Park to go over the options.

Ortiz's injured his Achilles' tendon as he rounded second base after Adrian Gonzalez hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning of Monday's victory over the White Sox. Daniel Nava replaced him in the lineup on Tuesday.

"Sox waiting for 1 on 1 with Ortiz when he arrives to park. Part of discussion will be whether to DL or wait out sore Achilles," Cafardo tweeted earlier.

No tear THANK GOD.

Keep positive uplifting thoughts for David everyone!! Let's hope he is back for the series against Toronto. Pedroia's return on Thursday could help alleviate the huge blow of losing Ortiz for a few days.

Should have optioned Nava for Lavarnway.

And, No Ross? Weird. Ross could have been the DH with Sweeney batting third. Or Sweeney third & Lavs DH.

Lester's domination of the White Sox will help the Red Sox win this one for Ortiz.

More from the Globe:

Game time: 7:10 p.m.

TV/Radio: NESN / WEEI

Red Sox vs. Humber: Sweeney 2-9, Gonzalez 3-8, Ortiz 2-7, Ellsbury 1-6, Saltalamacchia 3-5, Crawford 2-4, Aviles 1-4.

White Sox vs. Lester: Rios 8-36, Konerko 9-21, Ramirez 4-20, Pierzynski 4-11, Beckham 2-11, Hudson 1-7, Viciedo 2-6, Dunn 0-4, De Aza 1-4, Flowers 1-3.

Stat of the Day: After his three-run, eighth-inning homer Monday night, Adrian Gonzalez has a team-high nine game-winning RBIs this season.

Notes: Lester makes his first post-All-Star break start. He lasted just 4.1 innings on July 8 against the Yankees, taking the loss after giving up five runs (four earned) on nine hits. He last faced the White Sox on April 28. In one of his best outings this season, Lester pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing five hits and striking out seven. Lester has not lasted past the seventh inning since May 14, but he has a team-high 10 quality starts. He is 12 strikeouts away from 1,000 career Ks ... Humber has been on the disabled list since June 17 with a strained right elbow. Since pitching a perfect game on April 21 at Seattle, his ERA is 7.47. He got battered in the follow-up act on April 26 against Boston, allowing nine runs on eight hits in five innings. The Sox won that game, 10-3. He is 1-2 with a 8.83 ERA lifetime in three starts against Boston. In Humber's latest outing, he stopped a two-game losing streak by picking up the win against the Dodgers, a five-inning affair on June 16. He pitched in a rehab start Thursday for Double A Birmingham, allowing one run, two hits, and no walks in six innings. .... Last night's Red Sox win snapped a seven-game losing streak at Fenway against the White Sox, a streak that dated back to Aug. 26, 2009 ... Over his past 17 outings, Vicente Padilla has a 1.23 ERA. Sixteen of those outings have been scoreless ... Gonzalez has hit safely in 20 of 21 games ... Since being dealt to Chicago, Kevin Youkilis has 15 RBIs and is hitting .323 ... Pierzynski is batting .500 over his past four games.

Is it 4:10 yet? Argh. Running errands toking till gametime. It's a beautiful day in So Cal and I have done nothing outside!!

These games start at the perfect time. Get off work at 2:30, go home and play with the baby, baseball at 4:10, watch the game during dinner, and the game is over at around 7. Then it's cool enough to jump in the pool for awhile before bed.

Also' date=' since Crawford has a bad elbow tendon, why not DH him instead of Nava?[/quote']

Huh. I have absolutely no answer for that. It'd make perfect sense though.

Sweet' date=' 2 shortstops. Gonzo better do some serious stretching over there at first.[/quote']

Nava hitting 3rd and two shortstops? Bobby V is officially in dementia.

I fixed the line up. Obviously Pedro is playing 2B.

But Nava is still hitting 3rd and DHing while Crawford will be playing LF with his sore elbow. What does Bobby V think about all day?

Shhh. Let the FO figure it out for themselves. They're the ones getting paid.

Morales is the odd man out of the rotation. He's going back to the bullpen according to all the tweets from the beat writers.

Initially, I was pissed. Then I realized its a very smart move. Leave Cook in the rotation for now. Go trade for another SP. Then you piggy back Morales's innings on the end of Doubronts so that you will have that solid back of the rotation until the season is over, even after Doubronts innings limit is met. There is no point in having two guys with innings limits in the rotation at the same time if you don't have to.

Now, go get Garza, bump Cook. And you have a 1-5 of Lester Beckett Buchholz Garza Doubront until Doubies reaches his limit, and Morales gets inserted into the rotation. Doubront to DL, Bailey to bullpen.

Well played, FO

I have no idea. I like your suggestion that Crawford should DH. It makes total sense

When Doubront reaches his innings limit, what do they do with him? He has no options, so they can't send him down. I guess they would have to phony DL him.

Yeah you DL him with "dead arm" and then bring up Bailey or Tazawa or Wilson, depending on the timing.

Can you get in trouble with that kind of thing?

Ortiz is out ~1 week. He'll most likely return for the Yankees series.

This is really f***ing annoying all these injuries up and down up and down.

Just hang in there for Wild Card race, Red Sox!!
