More from the Globe:

Game time: 7:10 p.m.

TV/Radio: NESN / WEEI

Red Sox vs. Axelrod: Aviles 0-2, Punto 0-1, Ross 0-1, Shoppach 0-1, Gonzalez 0-0 (1 BB).

White Sox vs. Cook: Hudson 17-41, Dunn 4-18, Pierzynski 1-12, Rio 3-8, Ramirez 2-5, Youkilis 1-4, Beckham 1-2.

Stat of the Day: Since being traded to Chicago on June 24, Kevin Youkilis became the first White Sox player since 1974 to record five game-winning RBIs in his first 14 games with the club.

Notes: Cook last pitched on July 4 at Oakland, picking up the loss after scattering nine hits and three runs over six innings. In three starts since getting recalled from Triple A Pawtucket in late June, Cook is 2-1 with a 2.25 ERA in 20.0 innings pitched. Opponents are hitting .224 against in in that stretch. Cook has only faced the White Sox twice in his career. He is 1-0 with four earned runs and 15 hits allowed in 12 innings ... Axelrod gets the start after Gavid Floyd was scratched with tendinitis in his right forearm. He has only made eight appearances, and five starts, this season. He is 1-2 with a 6.16 ERA in 30.2 innings, and has allowed seven homers in that span. He last faced Boston on April 27 in relief, allowing one run on three hits in 2.1 innings. The White Sox lost that game, 10-3 ... Carl Crawford will make his first major league appearance since Sept. 28, 2011. In 11 minor league games rehabbing his strained elbow ligament and then a groin injury, Crawford hit .306 (11 for 36) with eight walks and two stolen bases ... Youkilis is hitting .295 with 15 RBIs in 16 games since being dealt. For contrast, he had 14 RBIs in 42 games with the Red Sox this season.

Bobby V went with 4 lefties in a row at the top of the order. I am pleased and surprised. I don't believe in L-R-L-R nonsense. Put your best hitters at the top of the lineup and bunch them together.

The Red Sox are catching a heck of a break with the pitching for the White Sox in this series. The White Sox have a lot of injuries to starters right now. Gavin Floyd was originally scheduled to pitch against us tonight and he owns us.

Let's capitalize on this break.

Don't like 4 LH in a row.

Ortiz vs LHP - .964 OPS

Ellsbury vs LHP - .971 OPS (16 PA in 2012), .841 OPS last year

Gonzo vs LHP - .781 OPS this year (higher than that vs RHP), .787 OPS vs LHP last year.

It's not like you have a bunch of sub .700 OPS vs LHP guys. These guys all hit LHP well, certainly well enough not to merit a RHH between them.

If Middlebrooks had a .964 OPS vs LHP and he was hitting between Ells, Craw, and Gonzo, nobody would bat an eye. But since Ortiz is a left handed hitter, he's not allowed to hit left handed pitchers.

It's so stupid. And a700 agrees with me.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Red Sox are aggressive in their pursuit of Cubs' right-hander Ryan Dempster.

Bruce Levine of ESPN Chicago reported on Sunday that ten teams have shown legitimate interest in acquiring Dempster, so the Red Sox are one of many in the mix. Given that Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer are quite familiar with the Red Sox farm system, it will be interesting to see whether this will increase the chances of a deal. Dempster has five and ten rights, so the veteran right-hander has the ability to block any trade, but he has expressed willingness to join any contender.

Well here we go. Youk back as a WS could be a huge ouch.....hopefully Crawford will be as solid coming back as Ells has been so far.

I have to admit I thought there was at least a 50-50 chance that Ells would not be as strong as he appears to be coming back....hopefully i will be just as wrong on Crawford.

Any projections for Crawford? I say 3-5' date=' Double, SB, 2 Runs. Big night in return.[/quote']

The White Sox starter sucks, so destroy him.

For me I am actually more interested to see how Cook does in what has to be the biggest test for him since he began his stint in the rotation....although it almost does not matter who he faces. He either keeps the ball down or he does not. The only difference in opponents is how far the ball travels if he does not.

Finally our 142 player is going to play... This game is going to be special. CC back and Youk in Fenway again.

Win.

Yea, ya know, to be honest with you, I'm not really all that happy with Cook starting. I don't think starting him is worth a missed start by Lester, Beckett, Buchholz, Doubront, or Morales.
