Enough of this crap. I hate this park, you hate this park, everyone hates this park. Pasta mojo didn't work last night (gemelli), kapsis gamethread mojo didn't work, horrific-photos-posted-by-troll mojo didn't work, so you know what? f*** mojo. Mojo doesn't always work. So tonight instead of mojo I'm gonna try something new. I'm gonna try no mojo-mojo. I realize that this is both contradictory and lame, but seriously, f*** this. These are the Seattle Mariners. Chone Figgins drove in the winning run last night and he's batting about as well as a700 would on the Major League level, and Ted has two hip replacements (I assume?). We have had three excellent pitching performances, which has been the thing that the team has needed all season, and all but one of them has been negated by the offense batting like Derek Jeter fields. So yes, this is my decision about mojo tonight. f*** mojo, just win the goddamn game, because really, the Mariners.

Watching Salty whiff on another catch at home was really irritating. He has played better defensively of late and last night's play was a tougher play than the one from the first game but that is two plays that were game ending that he just did not make.

That is a tough way to lose games but the Sox and their willingness to accept weak defense at the most important defensive positions on the field is always going to cost them games.

Take the good with the bad I guess but that is two games in three nights.

true, that salty needs to take of his mask like you said earlier, but i think he is learning from Varitek, and he never really took of his mask when the play was in the outfield... but he still has to catch that 1 hopper somehow.

but more than that i wish if BV would have moved the runners on in the 10th

You are right that I would hit as well as the freakin Mariners:lol:, although I do like the kid Seager who plays 3rd for them. He can hit.

Gonzalez is having the quietest 11 gm hit streak...

Probably because he has 3 XBH in those 11 games (17 hits).

Just win the f***ing game. And then take 2 of 3 from f***ing Oakland. Okay. Just stop s***ing around.

Ortiz is the only All-Star on the Sox. I am okay with this.

Yeah, he's really the only one playing to that level on the team right now. Between Gonzalez slumping, Pedroia being on and off because of injuries, and Nomar not being on the Red Sox, there's not a lot of All-Star caliber playing going on. Though an argument could be made for Salty given the AL alternatives, I suppose.

It's unreal how Jeter still gets voted in every season when there are so many better SS.

Jeter will start if he hits .170 or .370.

How is jeter so loved when all he is a decent OBP guy with middling power, So-so road home splits, and a glove that just makes dick Stuart look like Adrian gonzalez.

Nomar was the far better player.

I used to make this argument all the time, but the passage of time has settled the issue. Captain Intangibles has withstood the test of time. Nomar is no longer in the debate.

I have less a problem with Jeter making the All Star team in his twighlight than I had when Joe Torre was taking 4 or 5 SS to the All Star game to get his boy on the team. There were several years when Jeter did not belong early in his career. He is now a legend, and the game is for the fans. If they want to see him, that's what it's all about. He's earned it.

BTW: I still hate him.

f*** him. He's overrated and nowhere near as half as good as people think. Longevity doesn't equal greatness.
Longevity certainly factors into the equation. A guy hitting over .300 with a good OBP at age 37 or 38 while manning SS is pretty damn good. We have to stop making the Jeter sucks arguments. It makes Sox fans look stupid and whiny. There comes a time when you have to tip your cap to your opponent. That time came a long time ago with Jeter.

I remember when I went to Fenway for Carl Yastrzemki Day in 1983-- his second to last game. As I was buying the tickets from the scalper, I got grabbed around the neck from behind from someone yelling my last name. I turned around and it was a bunch of guys that I went to High School with in Brooklyn. They were rabid Yankee fans. I said to them: "it's his final weekend, did you have to come here to harass him." They told me that they thought he was an all-time great. They grew up watching him and they were there to see him honored. I argued baseball with these guys for years, and they were there to tip their caps.

+1 I hate the Yankees, but I just can't hate on Jeter. You have to respect what he's done and the way he plays the game.
