Well for one thing I think we called it right in these pages. I don't recall any of us reading into the Olney piece that the Sox were bickering with each other, only that there were some that were unhappy and we did discuss to some extent how that might be a distraction that might be tied to some of the sloppy play in the field.

The "radio head" take on the article was that the players were bickering with each other and I don't know where that comes from other than some desire to turn the whole thing into some sort of soap opera.

Although the Olney article did get linked in this thread that is titled using the word "dissension".

BTW' date=' Ortiz admitted the clubhouse was a problem last September. The only thing that really changed was the manager.[/quote']

There was at least one other change. Last year, Ortiz admitted that he did not exert leadership in September. Whether or not people were figuring that was JV's job as captain, can be debated. Ortiz did say that he would be stepping it up this year.

According to his interview out today, he has done just that. "...I'm the guy in control of this [clubhouse]".

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh.

These f***ers can cry me a river. They make a TON of money and they all just need to shut the f*** up and play baseball. I'm so tired of this team.

They are all f***ing pricks and Senior Ortiz and Kentucky Fried Beckett are leading the way.

f*** 'em all!

If this guy is banned, how does his post remain here for all to nauseate over?

Dear Season Ticket Holder:

As we cross the midpoint of our 2012 season, we thank you for your loyal support thus far. We met many of you at our new spring home, JetBlue Park at Fenway South, and renewed more acquaintances as we opened the 100th Anniversary season at Fenway Park. We sensed that the nostalgia touched you, and we hope to continue to celebrate this special anniversary from time to time throughout the year.

Our play on the field has at times tested the mettle of the faithful. It could be maddening one day, enthralling the next day. Along the way, we have seen our bullpen gel, young players emerge, and veterans lead. We have watched the team coalesce into a close group. Personalities are enhancing the chemistry, such as the cheerful Cody Ross, the friendly Mike Aviles, and the inspiring story of Daniel Nava. Jarrod Saltalamacchia has shown power, in the clutch, worthy of an All-Star. And as the talented Will Middlebrooks forced his way into the lineup, we bade farewell, with gratitude, to Kevin Youkilis, who helped us win two World Championships.

The one constant on the field has been our beloved Big Papi, David Ortiz. How thrilled we were that our gregarious leader reached the 400-home run plateau in a career that we hope will forever be with the Red Sox.

The one constant off the field is that we have had a veritable All-Star Team on the disabled list. As we begin the second half, we look forward to the return of the “varsity,” including Jacoby Ellsbury, Carl Crawford, Andrew Bailey, and the ever-dirty Dustin Pedroia.

While this infusion of such talent in late July may make other General Managers green with envy, you can be sure that Ben Cherington and his Baseball Operations Staff will approach the July 31 trading deadline with their tireless work ethic. If someone can further help this club, and if the deal makes sense, we will be aggressive. We want to play October Baseball this year.

Meanwhile, as you come to Fenway Park throughout this season, we hope you will come early—the secret to fully enjoying a sports venue. Now “A Living Museum,” Fenway Park probably leads the league in bronze plaques and commemorative displays along the concourses. Enjoy them at your leisure early, well before the escalation of excitement as game time approaches. And as always, if you have reactions, suggestions, or ideas that will make the ballpark experience even better, we invite you to send them to fanfeedback@redsox.com.

By the way, if we’re in your neighborhood for a visit during “Acts of Kindness Month” this month, please come over and say hello. We enjoy listening to you, and we enjoy talking baseball with you. We’re your biggest fans. So, on behalf of John Henry, Tom Werner, our partners, and our entire organization, we thank you again, and we look forward to seeing you at Fenway Park.

Keep the Faith,

Larry Lucchino

Remember this ********? LOL, how stupid you think he feels now? Cheerful Cody Ross? Friendly Mike Aviles? The "Varsity"? Really......too funny.

Hmmmmm.

I guess the article by Buster Olney was right all along.

It is funny to go back to some of the early season threads and see how angry people got when there were any kind of critical remarks directed at the Sox.

It is also funny to see how some of the most vehement supporters totally stopped posting when things went way south.

some fans fret their frustration in words, some get silent to take their frustration out. just different way of vehementing

The negative things that were said about the team really understated the state of the team as all could see by the end. It was a typical case of shooting the messenger. This was a horribly flawed team from day 1. I am so glad that Cherries specifically acknowledged that the root of the team's poor performance was not injuries, but rather poor pitching, and he took responsibility for not building an adequate staff. That heartens me for a few reasons. In this day and age too many people look to avoid accountability for their mistakes. It's become a cultural thing and the main reason why our education system sucks the big one. Not only will people not hold themselves accountable, but teachers, bosses etc. are not allowed to criticize. Sorry for the digression. The good thing about taking accountability is not to have someone to blame. You can't fix a problem unless you can identify the problem and its causes. I am happy that Cherries is not deluding himself or lying to his superiors, the fans or the press. Now, he needs to fix it.

Even the most negative comments about the team early on did not anticipate a last place finish, so whatever they said was completely warranted and truly understated the teams problems by a long shot. I don't know why criticism by fellow fans upsets people. We're all diehard Red Sox fans. We all want the team to do well. Frankly, some people need to grow up and realize that the criticism leveled at their team by fellow fans is not a personal insult. You are right that the pollyanas have really made themselves scarce lately. Some people take that term as a terrible personal insult, which is ironic (apologies YOTN) considering the insulting terms and ridicule used towards posters who dare to offer honest criticism.

At the start of the season, I thought this team would probably stay in the hunt for the second wild card spot until late in the season when I thought the thin pitching would be exposed and collapse. I was very disappointed in the off season moves, but I thought they might have enough to keep the fans interest for most of the season. With 5 teams making the playoffs, just playing .500 keeps you competitive. You really have to suck bad to be out of contention by the beginning of August. People lost their minds when I stated at the All Star Break that the team had no shot at the division. Does anyone owe me any money or beer on that one. LOL! At that point, even I didn't think we would end up in last place and still thought we could compete for a wild card. It was really tough living through 6 months of stinking right on the heels of last September. It has been an unending nightmare. Now, that the suffering is over, I am somewhat glad that the team failed so early and was so horribly bad, because it is a wake up call. If we had been competitive for a wild card spot in September, it would have validated the FO for the extremely lousy job it had done. This failure has opened everyone's eyes to the fact that the emperor has no clothes. He needs to go shopping.
