He never played for the DBags.

Rox' date=' not DBacks, but I agree.[/quote']

Woops. I meant the Rockies, thanks.

Morales next start is against Oakland vs. Griffin (0-0) but the next day the Sox play the Yanks and Cook is scheduled vs. Kuroda (7-7).

I think, hope, that Bobby V swaps those two. I know it'd be one day sooner than Cook expected but he worked so efficiently I think he'd be able to go on 1-day less rest. That way Morales gets to start against the Yanks, which probably gives the Sox are better chance at taking game one of the series.

Anyone think this, too?

Wouldn't even be short rest for Cook bc the Sox are using a 6 man rotation right now. I posted somewhere else this same idea, give Cook the ball vs the A's, give Morales the ball vs the Yanks.

You could easily sell it as "Morales threw 110 pitches, needs a couple extra days, Cook threw 81, can easily go now and give Morales an extra day".

But we all know, he's really saying "Cook would get torched by the Yankees. Morales could mow them down. We need to get a W in that first game"

Yup, agreed. I think I quoted your other post & mine to respond in the 6/30 game thread.:lol:

I really hope V does this... Morales is still young - quick recovering body :P

Morales against the Yankees would be an infinitely better matchup than Cook vs Yankees. I like how Cook worked last night, but we really need to see more of him before trusting him in big games like that.

Morales throws strikes and can pump it up to 95. He misses bats.

Cook has much lower velocity and needs to keep the ball down to be successful. I dont trust him against new York. If he starts missing up, we're done for.

Much better tonight.

My only concern is that his change disappeared.

When he was going good earlier this year, his fastball was surgical, his curveball had good snap.....and he also threw an above average changeup AND Splitter. I didn't see much of the change and splitter tonight.

Moving forward, he HAS to have at least 3 pitches, otherwise....he is Bard.

He has to maintain condidence in his change.

You throw a lefty against the Yankees whenever you can. They are built to hit RHP' date=' because of their ballpark.[/quote']

I know this is from 2 weeks ago, but this is complete fallacy. Highest OPS in the AL vs lefties

I am sure that somehow has something to do with the short porch in RF.

What are the splits?

I'd do that in a heartbeat if I wasn't worried about Morales' innings cap.

He's at 63 innings and it's already August. He shouldn't reach a cap this year.

His cap may be lower than you think, because he hasn't pitched more than 50 innings in each of the last 7 years. He's hit his all time innings high already.

Aaron Cook has not been missing bats at a historical rate. He now has 6 K/7 BB in 51.2 IP. His K% is now up to 2.8%. In the last 50 years, the lowest K% of any pitcher with at least 40 innings has been 3.5%. Only three pitchers in that time have been below 4%.

Before Monday's game, Aaron Cook had thrown 622 pitches this season. Batters had swung and missed at only 17 of them.

And of all the the bargain basement winter shopping and dumpster diving this walking MASH unit is the best of the bunch. Just pathetic. Honestly, either Cherington knew this was a throw away season at he beginning (hoping to luck out with a wild card berth) or he is incredibly stupid. These questions and concerns were noted by numerous writers and analysts before the season started.

I honestly believe Cherington has absolutely no idea how to judge pitching nor how to acquire it. Bailey, Melacon, and Cook are pretty good evidence for me.

The fact that Aaron Cook is even a member of our rotation speaks volumes to the position we are in.

Yeah, because signing a pitcher with a 4.7 era in the AL East to a minor league deal is such a terrible decision and how the hell can you say that Bailey is a poor pitcher, hasn't played all season?

I guess if you just look at ERA and believe 4.70 is a good ERA...then you probably do think Cherington is doing an acceptable job. For me, his inability to miss bats is a better indicator of his future success. If a pitcher can't miss bats (17 misses in 622 pitches), he is too dependant on his fielders and luck.

Bailey has been on the disabled list all of 2012. He also spent a good deal of 2011 on the disabled list. He also spent time on the disabled list in 2010. I see a pattern and I don't like it.

Bailey is by far the best closer we've ever had' date=' he has an ERA of 0.00 for god sake![/quote']

Actually, he would have to have recorded at least one out in order to calculate a 0.00 ERA.

Right now his ERA is simply recorded as -.-- which is the same ERA you and I have. ;)

Didn't realize we were that good, bring on the big money contracts!

Franklin Morales deserves a spot in the rotation over Felix Doubront.

Felix Doubront, is a below average major league pitcher at this point.

DL

More of an answer than Doubront.

He's better than Doubront, although oddly Doubs was very good against the Yankees. Neither is a solid starter and neither is part of the solution.
