You guys are funny. Morales throws 2 solid games against teams with pretty useless offenses and all of a sudden he is "hell yeah...awesome". There is a reason Morales farted around in Colorado as a starter before they eventually stashed him in the pen and gave him away for nothing. He is tantalizing. When his stuff hits, he is unhittable. When he loses his command, he has to come in and he gets crushed. You guys complaining about DiceK will love Franklin when he stops locating. He's given you two solid replacement starts. Wait until he faces an offense with some patience who will work him into hitters counts and just start blasting away. You'll be calling for his head

Jacko, the key is he's throwing strikes. If a "patient hitter" wants to automatically go to a 0-2 count, I'm sure Morales wouldn't bebothered by it. It's not like he's getting hackers to swing at 3 straight pitches out of the zone.

Willhiscommand stick around? Probably not, but a patient team won't automatically have better production if he can pitch the way he has in his last two starts.

Patient teams also foul off pitcher's pitches and will hit good pitches in early counts. A patient team doesnt necessarily mean they just sit there until they are punched out. It just means they wait for their pitch. If it's the first one, they will hack.

3.1 BB/9 over the past 2 seasons.

2.3 BB/9 this season.

Since coming to Boston, 2.7 BB/9.

And Atlanta has the 8th best offense in the MLB.

Look up some stats. He had control problems in Colorado, but ever since he came to Boston, his control has improved significantly.

Pitching coaches have a lot to do with this. But no. Those 81 innings of 3.1 BB/9 pitching are ********.

Morales has the stuff to be a good starter--as good as any they have-- if he can find the strike zone consistently. None of the Red Sox starters has shown any consistency so far this year, however.

You have to wonder if changing pitching coaches every year can have a negative effect. It's a sign that all is not right with the pitching management.

SFF, they converted him to relief because he was inconsistent. He's been pretty consistently average out of the pen for you guys. His last 2 outings are aberrancies.

Also, I did look up some stats SFF. I said more "patient offenses". The Braves arent patient. They are 16th in the bigs in walks. That's middle of the pack. Chicago is 29th. My point stands

I was clearly referring to the part where you called the Braves a "useless offense"

And you said yourself, he's got unhittable stuff if he can throw strikes. Well, he's throwing strikes, his walks are down, so what's the problem now? Now he's just an average pitcher?

9.61 K/9. 2.34 BB/9. 2.79 FIP overall.

As a starter: 13.91 K/9. 0.82 BB/9. .423 BABIP. 58.3% Strand Rate. Still, 3.27 ERA. 0.24 FIP.

There is ample reason to be excited about this guy based on the numbers he has put up over the past 2 seasons, specifically those with the Red Sox.

I can certainly understand your desire to believe that Morales' return to oblivion is inevitable. I would feel the same about any Yankee pitcher in similar circumstances. None of us know for sure how this will turn out. If somehow he has figured out the command problems he had in Colorado then his stuff is going to be dominant, and he will be a nightmare for you and Yankee fans everywhere.

YOU'RE A YANKEES FAN!! Of f***ing course you think we're getting excited too early and wish nothing more than for all our players to crash and burn.

The point is though, Morales has great, great stuff and is locating consistently -- out of bullpen and now in two spot starts.

He got f***ed up in Colorado for a lot of reasons; a) called up from AAA too early, B) suffered two injuries, c) pitched in the biggest hitter friendly park in the nation next to yankee stadium (thin air!), d) trouble locating. Well, now he is a bit removed from that time in his career, has grown as a pitcher, and still is only 26.

Now if Franklin crashes & burns on the mound next time out Red Sox Nation will [probably] go ballistic 'cause thats just how Bostonians are. But if you had this guy giving two EXCELLENT spot starts in your rotation when the rotation itself is falling apart you'd be damn excited, too.

But, let's say Franklin goes out next time and gives us 6.0 IP, 2-3 ER, 1BB, 6-9Ks which I think he will, that'll be yet another good/quality start. This rotation needs consistency. Morales, thus far, is providing it hence, Red Sox Nation is excited. No one else in the rotation is providing excitement.

The guy goes against Seattle next. I think it shouldn't be very hard for him to put forth another good effort.

That all depends on his control. If he maintains it, he will be fine.

Based on his starts so far, if he can maintain his control, he's a top of the rotation SP. Top of the rotation, sub 3.5 ERA guy.

Like I said earlier, he's got a 2.3 BB/9 this year. He's developed a great change up, too. I think the Sox may have stumbled upon something special

Plus, it's about damn time that we lucked out with something like this.

You've been grasping at straws all year and you're grasping again. We'll see how this plays out, but it seems like your favorite flavor is the flavor of the month

your team scores more than 52% of its points via HRs and play half their games in a stadium which has highschool baseball field depth.

what happens when they face good pitching?

We'll think on our problems your think on yours.

Its very very early to get too excited about his prospects of becoming a dominant SP-way too early. Give him half a year of doing it minimum. Meanwhile, I'll take what I can get from him. Every outing is not going to be dominant.

I think we have little luck coming our way.

Apparently the Yankees are having some "luck" coming their way too:

NEW YORK -- Yankees ace CC Sabathia is heading to the disabled list with a strained muscle in his left leg.

With all the extra body weight CC carries around this could take some time to heal. TOOOOOOOOOO BAD! :D

Really? Like who?

Middlebrooks? Man. I was way off there.

Doubront? 3.57 xFIP. What'd I project his ERA to be? 3.65? Hm.

Yankees lost Pettitte yesterday too. Gives the Red Sox a good opportunity to make up some ground.

i want to sweep the yankees so bad and bury them in the ground... but on topic Morales rocks!! we have stumbled upon a diamond in the rough. i was calling Morales and Albers just bad pen options and we lucked out with 1 of them. and even with Albers he hits 95 consistently but his pitches are in the meat of the plate. i really do hope pitching coaches can take the data and make modifications to whatever pitch is getting whacked to use less in crucial situations.

Both Middlebrooks and Doubront have proven nothing. They could just as easily flame out as become stars here. Both have potential, but thats about all you can reasonable say about them right now.
