It's not even close to being over. 10 games out can be made up on 5 games' date=' there are almost 100 games remaining.[/quote']

Its VERY close to being over IMO. You are also entitled to your own opinion. If we were behind one team by 10 games, thats a large deficit to make up, but remotely possible with so many games left. Lose tonite and we will be behind FIVE TEAMS for the WC, including SIX games behind the leaders. Not mathmatically impossible, but so difficult to achieve with our kind of team that we really ought to begin plotting for next year as a strategy rather than trying to force something that is not going to happen.

Just keeping it real. Didn't say I like it.

Just noticed your tag line.

RSFFL should probably head off to the bank early this week to apply for the loan he will need to complete his promise. :D

I told him he'd never live that down, when he said he guaranteed that the Sox would finish with a better record than the Marlins. He's said it was not a serious bet.

We blew it with how many games left? Best team in baseball all year, so you can't even say these teams are better than that. It's all possible.

Of course not. And I don't expect him to keep the conditions of that bet.

All of us are frustrated as hell right now at the sorry state of affairs. Thats why, partly at your suggestion, I stopped calling games over in the game threads as some people viewed that as rubbing it in and reveling in the losses, which is flat untrue.

Time to be more constructive, even if that involves planning for next year or even 2014 rather than cashing prospects in to make a futile run this year. Its close; very close.

That was the biggest choke in the history of the game, or close to it. To expect five teams (six including the Yankees) to all choke so that we can get in is getting more and more unrealistic. I certainly would not make hasty trades involving our prospects right now-for anyone.

I've been waiting since game 162 for my paid subscription. RSFFL give me that damn subscript!!

The Bleacher Report is made up of fans. They're just talking out of their asses' date=' like us.[/quote']

Indeed. Fans never have anything good to say! But it's chatter nonetheless.

Anything is possible. But the stars need to align and the Sox need to play incredible baseball from here on out. It's possible but...

Well, let's just stay positive. Gonzo needs some aaa ABs to find his stroke I feel like.

And to consider they don't even need to choke at this point in any way for us to make it. I'm confident that when CC and Ells return it's going to really give this team the boost it needs.

I don't look forward to 2013 yet because I know this team is capable. I'll look forward to 2013 when we're World Champs, or when we're eliminated.

You are kidding, right?

Because its all relative. We win+they win=we remain in last place far out of a playoff run. We lose+they win= we get so far behind that catching them (and there are a lot of them) becomes magical thinking.

Yeah, its June. In two weeks it will be July. Are you guys going to say then "hey, its only July"? There is, unfortunately, a point at which its time to stop pretending we have a realistic shot at the playoffs. That time is fast approaching.

It's not about "last place." It's about winning games to get to 93ish wins. There are enough divisional games left that ALE standings are pointless. Win the games you playand you'll get to the playoffs.

1. There is no objective evidence that this team is anything but mediocre.

2. To get to 93 wins we would have to play .629 baseball for the rest of the way. That translates to nearly a 102 win season.

3. Our pitching remains 12th in the AL out of the 14 teams. Thats not a formula for a 102 win season or .629 baseball for any sustained length of time.

4. We have to climb over six teams to get first place and four teams to reach the WC (second WC). Some of those teams are probably better than we are: the Rays and the Angels come to mind.

5. Although we have many games left within the ALE, all of those teams right now are better than we are and should be expected to win the majority of the games against us since we are a last place team. You are what your record says you are (Parcells).

Lester' date=' Gonzo, Ellsbury, CC and Pedroia will decide this season.[/quote']

I think that the pitching, especially the starting pitching, will decide this season.

PG, if this team is nothing but mediocre, why care about standings at all. If they're not making the playoffs, it doesn't matter if they're third or last place.

Morales has been pretty good when coming into fresh clean innings. He has struggled when he has been brought into innings with men on base. In this case the clean inning he is coming into happens to be the first. Maybe this will work out.
