Bob Ryan said it best: "The Red Sox just aren't very good this year". Simple. Elegant. True.

Makes no sense with Justin Germano in the minors looking for a callup. These are the exact spots that guys like Germano are brought in for

Unless they think it'd be showcasing Morales. I don't get it.

Well honestly, not sure we could have expected all three of the top starters to have gone all season healthy. Just have to hope Beckett does not have to be out for longer than a start. Soreness in the shoulder does not sound good though.

Will be interesting to see if the Sox actually pull the trigger for pitching before the deadline. I think it very likely that they will get somebody. However the kind of pitcher they trade for may tell us a good deal about what they really think they can do with the remainder of this season.

If Beckett is going to be out for awhile, then the sox should just soldier on as is and be sellers at the deadline. Anyone you get will just replace Beckett's production, and even with Beckett this yr, the sox are under .500

Who knows anymore. There is likely more than a grain of truth to the Ryan comment. Many of us were saying that there were really many more underlying problems to this team and more to the September collapse than met the eye.

We should have expected that it was going to take more time to recover from the last of the FO mess we were left with and I just think in general we have been in denial regarding how much of a mess that really is. Couple that with the way management has decided to handle this season and instead of treating post season play like it was a sure thing, it really was always going to be less than an even bet.

Anyway I still think this month will tell the story and have thought that for a long time now. They still have time to turn the month around but they won't at this rate. Just losing to many games.

If Beckett is out for any length of time, this season is over. Its hanging on by a thread right now already. Losing one of our most effective pitchers would seal the deal for me.

You been misbehaving on the game thread Jacko? Didn't read the whole thing. Why are people here PO'd at ya? :dunno:

It's working out so f'n well.

:lol::lol::lol:

Its a f'ing joke. The more other teams see of Youkilis the less they are going to want him. Same about Morales. Its probably time to dump these two for whatever we can get for them because the longer we wait the less we get in return-and its already close to zero.

pumpsie, it is a yearly game. Blame the loudmouthed Yankee fan. I've been here long enough to take it, and even sometimes enjoy it, lol

Sox, Love em but they are dead. No one is hitting wel, injury plagued, and now Beckett scratched?? Whaaaat?? Ugggh

Let's turn our focus to a REAL team: PATRIOTS!!

For my part, I have never had any problem with you. Sometimes you write the truth and the truth is unpleasant to read. Don't remember you ever rubbing it in here. Its all good.

Not sure if they actually think Youk has something in the tank or not. Right now he is such a hole in the lineup and there is no financial commitment to him for next season. So they are talking about what they might save in salary for the remainder of this year, coupled with what they might get for him. On the surface it does not appear that there is much that they can expect to gain by continuing to run Youk out there to be a big hole in the lineup.

There is an entire forum to discuss the Patriots. Even if the team stays at .500 there are still things to discuss and argue about.

Youk looks old. His bat speed is down a little, couple that with his mentality and the likelihood that he feels betrayed by the fan base and you have a guy who sees the writing on the wall. I think he needs to adjust his stance a little, get rid of that stupid starting point and shorten his path to the ball so he can start hitting again. I can say from experience that it isnt a good feeling to know there is a hard charging younger player behind you that has got the coach's eye. And it can get in your head

I have really tried hard not to believe it, but honestly at this point in the season the team has not shown any consistency what so ever. If the pitching is on the offense is off, if the offense is rolling in the runs the pitching is atrocious. Teams like Baltimore, Yankees, Rays all get on a hot streak and win a bunch of games in a row. Sox just can't seem to do that this year. I finally thought we would get some confidence and get a nice streak under our belt with this series. And then we go out and lay an egg against one of the worst teams in the league. Frustrating to say the least. It's really been a down season so far. But I'm not giving up on the team yet.

Josh Beckett will not start Sunday due to right shoulder inflammation.

Beckett is being sent for tests, after which we will get a better idea of his status moving forward. Franklin Morales will make the start in his place Sunday.

sox now 8 games back of the Yankees in the loss column. Wowzah!

I used to respect you but you really are just a troll. You say you post on yankoff boards but you are here for EVERY one of our games, even when your "team" is playing.

Go dive in the shallow end.

Overpaid bunch of f***ing clowns!!I disagree with Ryan. This team shouldnt be that terrible!Right now they are two games under 500.

They have guys that are not f***ing performing!Gonzalez is having a terrible season.Youks as well.Middlebrooks is going through a slump right now.

Always injuries with this team.Looks like another year with no playoffs for this overpriced baseball team!!Maybe they should cut payroll

Dempster is sitting 86-88. This guy would get crushed in the AL East.

And strikes 1 and 2 were balls in the first 2 innings.

It didn't get crushed today.

At this point blame can be placed on everyone from enept upper management on down to underperforming players. This has become an organizational issue that has managed to find its way to the playing field in more ways than one.

It's shameful as a fan because this is an organization that used to do things the right way. This team had its fair share of mercenary free agents when they were winning consistently but always had a strong foundation of young, talented, and hungry players eager to prove themselves. When the inevitable gap of talent ran short for a few seasons, the free agents who were brought in to help fill the gap and set an example have failed miserably at both. It's one thing to underperform but when you draw the amount of negative attention that this group has created in the past year plus, you have to question everyone involved.

Unfortunately, management and players continue to turn the other way and blame everything under the sun but themselves for this atrocious display they give us the majority of nights.

More bad news: all the other ALE teams but the Orioles are winning, and they are just down a run.

Getting close to time to throw in the towel for this season. Probably one or two more games behind the leaders and thats it for me for this season.

Even injured and slumping, the Red Sox should be beating the tar out of garbage like the Cubs. I can't see them going on a sustained successful run anytime soon. 8 games in the loss column in the loss column on June 15th is not trivial. It's 8 games and going in the wrong direction.

The problem is - will they? It's frightening because it seems this ownership group has taken the "baseball is a business" philosophy to the end of the earth with their consistent concern for growing their brand and sustaining revenue. I'm talking the endless 100 years of Fenway, bricks, coffee table books, etc. They have lost sight of the fact that all of those things are just ancillary satisficers that are reliant solely on a franchise that wins both on and off the field.

They have a lot of players with low OBP who aren't patient at the plate. Lots of outs there.

That wasn't the case 4-5 years ago.
