Mediocre teams behave like this. They have some hot streaks, followed ineviably by losing streaks. They have lots of difficulty beating teams that are better than they are. Their pitching is typically poor and their offense streaky.

We have a very mediocre team this year.

But thats just it: the reason we are failing this year is BECAUSE of stiffs like Gonzalez, Youkilis, Byrd, McDime etc etc along with the fact that our overall pitching ranks 13th in the AL. Therefore, we remain in last place. If we had a good team and were just a couple of games out of the playoffs that would be a different story. We don't.

I agree with you in that sense. I was simply making the point that being in last place by 3 games is not a reason to say this season is over.

 

Right now this team is mediocre. The return of Ellsbury, Crawford, and Bailey could change things if we can stay afloat in the mean time. Who knows.

Not true. I can dig up the statistics of every player as well as the relative position of our pitching to the rest of the AL. That should prove exactly how good they are right now. There is little evidence that they can turn the corner, in fact, none.

Well as densely packed as the AL East is with all teams at or over 500 which is where this was a few days ago speaks to how tough the AL East is I think.

 

I hope we see pinch hitter in the 9th also. I actually thought V must have an ace up his sleeve batting Byrd in that spot with Pods on third cause I could not figure it any other way in favor of letting Byrd hit.
