His FB% is up around where it was in 2008-2010, when he averaged about 36 HR/season. His LD% is also up at 22.4% (highest of his career).

He's getting hosed by HR/FB. His HR/FB is usually anywhere from 16.5% to 20.5%. This year, it's 6.5%. That's unfathomably low for a guy like Gonzo.

Yeah, I expect it's a bit flukish and will revert to more normal levels soon. Of course, if Ortiz keeps raking, they may not need Adrian to get back to normal to finish the year as one of the top offenses in baseball. :)

Is there any one place where you get all these fancy stats?

Ross is due back next week; McDonald is not far behind. Soon we will have a glut in the OF.

I would expect to see a lot of guys traded away. Guys like Podsednik, Morales, Byrd, and Youkilis will all likely get traded by the deadline, when Ellsbury, Crawford, and Bailey are back.

It's a fantastic site.

Oh, I read some articles there, somehow didn't notes the advanced stats. Thanks.

Yeah - Gotta go to the individual player pages via the search function.

Should be interesting, eh? How the FO handles this is going to be a testament to their competence. If its handled well we could end up in very good shape.

So, the O's are facing the Rays right now. They are tied for 1st.

Are you cheering for the O's because you despise the Rays, and see the O's as a non-threat, or are you cheering for the Rays?

Its 5-0 Rays already, first inning.

I actually think baseball reference has more interesting splits that you can get to within a click or two. Fangraphs is very good though.

Agons having trouble with the FB is not encouraging at all. The only thing worse than one CC is two CC's at a combined $40M per year.

Buchholz's career as a pitcher revolves around his changeup. If his change is working, he's an extremely talented, top of the rotation pitcher. If it's not, he's an average, back of the rotation pitcher.

I'm cheering for a devastating natural disaster and/or terrorist attack.

Oh, wait, they're playing in Tampa Bay. Terrorists only attack places with large amounts of people present.

Lets hope so.

Even that little ballerina move by Punto throwing the ball to first pisses me off.

It looked awkward and he had no chance at getting the DP anyway. Easily could have been thrown away.

I wonder if Punto can be let go in favor of another reserve IF in return for one of our OF.

His good change up came back last start and it seems to be there tonight as well. (pitchfx data won't be available until after the game) But if he's found that pitch again, he could be really effective going forward.

He's doing a really good job of creating deception with it. You can see here that it's clustered with his four seam and two seam fastballs in both horizontal and vertical movement...

And it's right there with both pitches for spin on the axis with far less velocity.

It makes for a very effective pitch.

Edit: These charts are from his previous start against the Rays.
