That would be the most insane, indefensible move any front office has ever made in any sport. We don't need some full on fire sale. It's not like we're Seattle.

2010: 3rd place. No playoffs.

2011: 3rd place. No playoffs.

2012: Last place (right now)

Yeah. They should keep the guys they have. They don't need to do anything drastic. Its been working out so well.

People with your opinion are the exact reason why this team has become the way they have become. The front office knows that no matter what, people like you will continue to buy tickets and buy their s***** merchandise.....no matter how bad the product becomes.

Thats not a knock on you, I respect your fandom and do not question your allegiance......but IMO major changes are the only way to fix this thing. Band aids havent been working.

It was a pretty wild year.

That was the year I started listening to Sox games on the radio. I'm pretty sure Sonny Siebert came close to throwing a no-hitter that year.

I'm not saying that some tinkering isn't needed. That's not my point at all but look at this roster and tell me that with the talent on it, we're not a top team with everybody healthy and performing up to par. If some guys come back healthy and others can perform up to their ability, we'll be in good shape to contend next year if not this year.

Their offense will be elite. Their defense will be elite. Their bullpen will be very strong. But they need an ace. Getting rid of Beckett makes money to go out and get one. He's the most two-sided pitcher in baseball, and there are far more reasons to get rid of him than keep him.

He was pretty good. In 1972, I think he got overused and blew out his arm. He was never the same again, but it gave Tiant the opportunity to start and he threw 6 shutouts in something like 14 starts. Wow!!

1972 was the year of my true Red Sox baptism. I was devastated when we lost to Detroit the last weekend but I was also fired up about the future of the team.

Wow' date=' I don't know why but I always had you pegged as a lot younger. Like in your 20's.[/quote']

There you go. As I said my brain still feels about 20. I think being a Red Sox fan keeps you young, or stunts your maturity, one or the other.

If anything this team's given me some grey hairs over the last few years.

If you're waiting up to see if the #RedSox make a trade tonight, go to bed. Nothing getting done tonight.

How was it being alive in 1969? :)

The 1960s were different. I was a kid but remember my mom going to the North Shore Shopping Center and getting box seat tickets and often right behind the Red Sox's dugout. We went 20 times a year and always had great seats. The Cardiac Kids of 1967 changed things quite a bit. Tickets were harder to get after that.

Baseball was different then. Yaz, Tony C., Mombo, Radatz, Stuart, Tillman, Mantilla, Malzone, Petrocelli...dang I'm glad I was alive back then.

#RedSoxTalk Sweeney hits door, hurts hand, goes from possible deal to definite DL. @MaureenAMullen

I may have missed it, but I only saw one poster mention the rumors about the Sox pursuing Justin Masterson from Cleveland. To me that feels like a great fit.

He's 27, he's affordable, and he's durable. I bet he wouldn't cost an arm and a leg either. Would be a nice pick-up for Sox, IMO.

Last year we didn't finish the job could it be destiny that we pull the comeback off this year and the yanks meltdown? It's only 8.5 games and we play the yanks 9 more times!

.......Another stupid ass thread that clutters the main forum.

I wish I were a mod to clean this s*** up at times like these.

Why all the stupid threads?

Carfardo this morning says Ben & Co are taking a cautious approach. ??

But LL said they were going to be "bold."

We did learn that Texas wanted Cook before the Yankee series, but the Sox turned them down.

So they start him in Yankee Stadium, he shits the bed, and the Rangers now are not interested.

Plus they got Soto instead of Shoppach. Not starting Morales instead of Cook in NY was very damaging to Boston--in more ways than one. Was V's hands tied on this one?

The impression I get of Cherington--no initiative. Passive guy. Waits too long.

Don't get your hopes up. He isn't a change type of guy. He won't last as GM.

LA TV power is showing itself again this year with the hyperactive Dodgers. Last year it was the Angels.

Next year it might be the Mets. TV wishes every team was in NY and LA. These are the big spending teams.
