Yeah, the Yankees got Ichiro--so the Sox better get somebody.

One of those pundits on MLB TV said tonite the Yankees "likely" will be World champions again.

He didn't mention that the Yankees are an aging team who have been flaming out in the playoffs lately.

And they just got older. And don't have Rivera to fall back on this year.

It's tough to get that NY-based network media to say anything bad about the Yankees.

Having said that, the Red Sox are in much worse shape. Henry is in a real pickle.

Yeah we need to get a 38 year old OF past his prime with a sub .300 OBP.

Well, the media just made him 10 years younger--going to NY.

Can we please hit this asswipe already??

Again. A 5.98 ERA spot starter. A SPOT f***ING STARTER.

You're the Boston Red Sox. Go score some runs FFS.

Somebody mentioned Ellsbury. Maybe the Marlins have the pieces to get him.

Yeah. I'd trade Ellsbury to the Marlins. For Mike Stanton. But nothing else.

I'd give up Barnes/Bradley/Ellsbury for Stanton. But they wouldn't want a 1 year rental of Ellsbury.

There is no pickle.....and the Sox should absolutely NOT attempt to acquire another 3rd or 4th rotation starter at the sacrifice of our already thin farm system.

Sell. Get some young talent back and get rid of these clubhouse diseases.

I think Stanton is the only player on the Marlins that is untouchable. He's under team control for 4 more years, and is one of the best players in the league already. However, if he is available, I say give up everything for him. At Fenway, he end up with 500+ HR, easily.

If we ever trade Xander' date=' off with Cherington's head.[/quote']

If Xander (as part of a package) could bring us Stanton, I'd fly to Boston to shake Ben's hand.

They're pretty much having a fire sale.

Yes. I know how long his deal runs. That's why I said multi year. Not only that, but you will get draft picks back.

From Ken Rosenthal: For those who missed it: #Marlins’ trade likely to be first of several. Team wants to change mix, eventually put better club on field.

"AKA Marlins want to get rid of clubhouse cancer Hanley Ramirez, only team reported who is stupid enough to have interest is Redsox."

more cancer can't hurt, we have plenty.

Yes. Several = 1. Ok.

Guess the Sox don't have scouts in FLA on Johnson. Guess Olney didn't report that the Marlins would listen to offers on JJ.

Man how times change. Just two years ago everybody would have been blowing a load at just the mere possibility of getting Hanley.

I always thought he was one of those guys that the FO hyped the crap out of, but didn't have the talent....like a Donnie Sadler, Steve Lomasney or Michael Coleman.

After they dealt him I was sad to see the production he had for MIA.

......there is no doubt he is talented, but I want his personality/attitude nowhere near the Sox clubhouse.

SFF, they arent trading for Johnson.....you are going to be disappointed.

Cherington has no balls to pull off a big trade, whether it be buying or selling. He is the embodiment of the Peter Principle. He is a gopher and a chief assistant, but not capable of being a GN of a premier baseball franchise.

Everyone, stop with the Cheringtron stuff.

John Henry said it himself..."Larry runs the Redsox".

Maybe he doesn't have the balls because LL cut them off, but he doesn't have them and don't expect any bold moves from him. Yes LL does run the place. Cherrington is a puppet.

Well, then Larry better get off his ass.

Lmfao where did you even come up with this? He has been GM for half a season. Whatd you think he was gonna come in this winter and blow everything up? I would love to hear the rationale behind this considering cherringron worked with theo all these years and theo was never afraid to make a bold move.

He was an assistant all those years. He didn'y morph into Theo as a result. I think he is out of his depth. It's just my opinion. He is very unimpressive whenever I hear him speak. Puppets are usually unimpressive.

I don't think Cherrington has been given enough time to know what he is or isn't, even if so many here are ready to jump down his throat. You can't make an injured, uninspired team healthy and inspired.

He could fire the pitching coach though. Not sure what he has to offer.

I'm bored and prone to speculation, so...

Would now be a good time for the Sox to eye getting Josh Johnson AND Matt Garza? Maybe move Doubront, Lavarnway/Salty, etc., + + + in the deal? They could look toward 2013 with a rotation of Johnson, Garza, Buchholz, Lester, and Beckett and hope to bounce back.

Doubront is a servicable pitcher, but he's not that good. I would argue that he's not as good as Justin Masterson, who they moved for V-Mart a few years ago.

I don't know, it would be a great time to do something bold and, frankly, I think they're going to have to to keep interest in the team high and hopes for 2013 at least warm. A deal like that would pillage the farm system, which would suck, but the farm system isn't helping this team in 2013.

I realize people hate Garza, thinking he's more of the same... but here's the thing... he's a different person, so he's literally not Lester or Beckett or Lackey, which is a good thing.

Lackey isn't going anywhere. You forgot him.

No to Johnson, hes hurt too much.

No to Garza, hes no better than what we have.

They have a TON of guys who they can trade and get value back for, Im not going to speculate as to who they could get......I don't really fantasize about that sort of thing.

They could deal:

Beckett

Lester

Ross

Ellsbury

Salty

Shoppach

Aviles

...and just about anybody in the bullpen.

Any number of those guys could get us a return better than Garza. Beckett....and possibly Lester MUST go though. Those guys are the problem.

I wonder if the sox are better off dealing Beckett for cap relief and then going balls to the wall for Greinke. That kid has some ridiculous stuff and should anchor your rotation for years to come. That will allow them to bring Lester along and see if they can fix him.

Actually, the first thing the sox need to do is fire McClure. That guy has no history of greatness as a pitching coach and has been at the helm of one of the worst rotational collapses in sox recent memory
